Star: A Computerized Tutorial In General Psychology, Barbara S. Chaparro, Charles G. Halcomb

This study investigated the use of a computerized tutorial--Self-Test and Review (STAR)--in a computer-managed general psychology course. STAR consists of four major modules which provide the student with a variety of learning exercises, including practice quizzes, practice final exams, performance reviews, and structured study questions. The purpose of the study was to determine whether students would choose STAR as a study tool, the effect of lecture versus self-paced settings on the use of STAR, whether students who used STAR would perform better than those who did not, and the effect of the timing of feedback in STAR on performance. A Study Of One Group's Experience Of The Advisement Process At Bank Street College, Marianne Montero
Graduate Student Independent Studies
This study describes and analyzes the Advisement Process as experienced by eight members of one advisement group. Most of the data is based on interviews with the students and the advisor of the group. Particular emphasis is given to mental health concepts that are applicable to Advisement.
Also discussed are the philosophy and goals that five of these students have for the children they teacher and how they strive to apply these.
Of the seven students interviewed, six felt that advisement was effective for them. One person did not.

The Cloze Procedure: A Measure Of Reading Comprehension Ability, Theresa Lorene Donaldson

The present study was conducted in order to determine if a relationship exists between those comprehension processes measured by the Paragraph Comprehension subtest of the McGraw-Hill Basic Skills System Reading Test and the cloze test developed for this project. Two classes of undergraduate education majors enrolled in “Foundations of Performance-Based Education” were administered both the cloze test and the multiple choice comprehension test.
A correlation coefficient was computed between the summary scores on the McGraw-Hill and the summary scores on the cloze test. The results yielded a correlation of .021. These results did not support the research hypothesis.

The problem was to determine the feasibility of predicting a student's success specific college, on the basis of data available at the time of the student's admission to the college. In addition to considering the development of a regression equation which could be applied to the data of any undergraduate entering the college, the feasibility of developing a statistically significant prediction equation at the school and major level was also examined.
The study was carried out in the following manner. Stepwise multiple regression was used on the admissions data of the graduating class of the 1978-1979 academic year. The cumulative …
