Personalized Reading Program For Intermediate Grades, Pamela Kay Kelly
Personalized Reading Program For Intermediate Grades, Pamela Kay Kelly
All Graduate Projects
As the reading specialist in an elementary school, it was my responsibility to assist the classroom teachers with their reading program; specifically, with those students who were having difficulty. It was not feasible for me to meet with all who needed help; at the most, I could help forty-three students per week. The pace at which I had to function to assess and meet their individual needs became too great. In view of this situation, the following program was designed to stimulate every intermediate student's desire to read and to do so at his own pace.

The Vocational Preference Inventory As A Measure Of Probable Teaching Effectiveness, Landon A. Fitch
All Master's Theses
This paper is a report of a study investigating the potential of the Vocational Preference Inventory as an instrument to predict the probable effectiveness of students preparing to be teachers. The Vocational Preference Inventory was given to effective teachers and to student teachers who were rated most and least effective by their college supervisors. The resultant profiles from the Vocational Preference Inventory scores were compared. The profiles and the profile interpretations of the effective teachers and the most effective student teachers were much more similar than those of the effective teachers and the least effective student teachers.

An Experimental Study Of The Effectiveness Of The Developmental Mathematics Course At Lehigh County Community College, Robert G. Clark
An Experimental Study Of The Effectiveness Of The Developmental Mathematics Course At Lehigh County Community College, Robert G. Clark
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The primary purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Developmental Mathematics program at the Lehigh county Community College. There was no positive evidence that the existing method of selecting students and/or the material content of the course was affective in achieving its stated objective; that of bringing the skill and ability of weak students needing remedial treatment up to the minimum level required for probable success in first-year college mathematics. The general hypothesis posed was that the students who took the Developmental Mathematics course would perform better in first-year college mathematics than those students whose ACT …

Designing And Implementing Open Workshop Education At Bank Street College Of Education, Stanley Chu
Graduate Student Independent Studies
Bank Street College of Education needs to design and implement an expanded program of open workshop education. Increased input of staff, scheduled time, and equipment is necessary for this implementation.
Open workshop education offers help, time and facilities where a teacher can be involved with learning concepts using a combination of materials and skills. In addition, it can also function as an opportunity to continue and further develop ideas and skills initiated in other classes or from one's own school or classroom.

A Comparison Of Third Grade Reading Practices, Objectives, And Achievment Test Results Between A Conventional Program And A Behavioral Objective Approach Program, Charles Henry Massey
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The study was concerned with investigating student achievement testing results, age and sex differences, and teaching practices between a behavioral objective type program and a convetional type program (arbitrarily defined) for the teaching of reading to third grade children as measured by standardized test instruments.
Thirty-one third grade students (16 boys and 15 girls) in the experimental class, with a median age of eight years, were compared with a control class of 33 students (19 boys and 14 girls), with a median age of nine years, as available small samples. Both groups were taught by one teacher.
The instructional materials …

To this end, a theoretical operational construct is explicated and the implementation strategies and tactics which are felt to insure a high degree of success for the program relative to realities extant in Rockland County are outlined. Second, an extended rationale reflecting the status of the American society, the …
An Experiment With Third Grade Pupils To Determine The Observable Relationship Between Decoding Instruction And Comprehension Growth, D. Pope
All Master's Theses
It was the purpose of this study to determine if there is a relationship between concentrated decoding instruction and comprehension growth of third grade pupils. The program was designed as follows: 1) a comprehension pretest was administered to twenty-four third grade pupils; 2) an experimental and a control group of equal comprehension ability was established; 3) each day for twenty minutes, isolated from the control group, the experimental group, underwent intense decoding skills instruction; 4) upon completion of 90 days of instruction a comprehension posttest was administered and the mean raw scores of the two groups analyzed by the t …
