Predicting Student Success In College Using Stepwise Multiple Regression, Richard Edward Cerullo

The problem was to determine the feasibility of predicting a student's success specific college, on the basis of data available at the time of the student's admission to the college. In addition to considering the development of a regression equation which could be applied to the data of any undergraduate entering the college, the feasibility of developing a statistically significant prediction equation at the school and major level was also examined.

A Skill Based Approach To Organizing And Cataloguing Supplemental Reading Materials At The Elementary Level, Patricia E. Selby

This project organized and catalogued all of the supplemental reading materials of an elementary reading room according to a reading skills code list. The code list was developed by consulting reading skills lists and the school district's student learning objectives. Fifteen major skill areas were included in the code list. Each was broken down into subskills which were assigned code numbers. Each supplemental material was examined and catalogued under the appropriate code number. A handbook was compiled which explained the system and listed all of the materials by skill area.

A Family Budget Simulation For Use In Secondary Level Consumer Economics Class, Robert James Barrett

A family budget simulation was designed and field-tested using pretest and posttest comparisons of fifty-six students and posttest only comparisons of one hundred sixty-three students to measure student achievement. The results showed substantial pretest to posttest gains but no significant differences in posttest only averages between students using the simulation and those not using the simulation. Recommendations for improving the design and application of the simulation are discussed.

Home Language Acquisition Skills Notebook, Rosanna May Detering

The home language acquisition skills notebook was developed to aid parents in giving appropriate language stimulation and activities for their child's level of development, four to six years of age. In addition, positive home teaching techniques, positive home language hints, and a mini-language library bibliography are also available to guide the parent in appropriate home language intervention. Although the notebook will be used with language delayed children first, it is designed to be used with all children in the Lake Chelan Elementary Kindergarten in an attempt to stimulate better language skills, both receptive and expressive.

A Program For Parents In Children’S Literature And Prereading Activities, James Patrick Rogers

This project developed an educational program for parents of children in the lower economic classes. The program consisted of a series of workshops for parents to help them enrich the prereading background of their preschool and primary-grade children. The major emphasis was to acquaint parents with children's literature and with the importance of their role in the reading development of their children.

Experiencing Literature Through The Use Of The Caldecott Books, Janet Marie Jansen

A handbook was developed to assist teachers and librarians in the presentation of the Caldecott books to elementary children. This handbook provides suggested enrichment materials and activities which can be used with children. Through these related activities children should become more aware of the importance of the Caldecott books as special picture books in the field of literature.

A vocabulary enrichment program of one hundred and twenty words for use at the third grade level was developed. The program included thirty weekly sets of formal written lessons to provide the opportunity for students to practice the meaning or multiple meanings of each word. A picture was used to represent the meaning or multiple meanings of each word.

Study Guide For Community College Students To Use With The Psychology Textbook, Anne J. Teigen

The need for developing strategies for teaching in the content areas was examined and, as a result, a study guide was developed to aid students in understanding the content of the psychology textbook. Lessons were developed for each of four different chapters to serve as instructional tools for teaching the content of a specific psychology textbook. The study guide contains twenty-four lessons and answer keys.

A year-long simulation game was created to facilitate the teaching of basic economics in a sixth and seventh grade middle school. The game could be adapted to implementation at lower grade levels. The students built two, table-top cities. They established a money system and were paid for positive behavior and effort. With their earned income and with loans from a bank, they purchased land, built homes, invested in business franchises, engaged in trade, and worked collectively to finance and build government projects and services. This study was designed to evaluate mainstreaming in-service training practices for regular teachers which result in successful child change. The research design implemented was a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group design with a pretest and a posttest. There were three comparison groups: (a) mainstreamed children and classes of regular teachers who participated in a practicum model of mainstreaming in-service, (b) mainstreamed children and classes of regular teachers who participated in a videotape model of mainstreaming in-service, and (c) mainstreamed children and classes of regular teachers who received no treatment (control group) .

A Home Interaction Program (HIP) was designed and implemented for Title I parents and students. The components of the program included monthly newsletters, libraries, and workshops. It was found that parents of Title I students participated in HIP activities as long as they could be done in the home. The conclusion was reached that if schools want Title I parents to become involved in their child's education learning experiences, programs must be developed to reach into the home.

This is a study of a math curriculum designed for a third grade class in a departmentalized setting. The children in the class were below average in math skills for this school and had little or no enjoyment from math. This paper shows the methods used to give the children a more positive outlook towards math while also building their skills. The paper includes descriptions of games and extensive samples of work sheets used.
