Whenever a public school modifies its scheduling program it has a direct effect upon any released-time program affiliated with the school. This study was undertaken, therefore, to determine the adjustment necessary in the released-time seminary program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in order to make that program compatible with three major flexible scheduling programs: (1) the Period Exchange of Rotating Period Program as used in the Cedar City High School, Cedar City, Utah, (2) the Modular Schedule as typified by the Stanford School Scheduling System (SSSS) and used in Roy High School, Roy, Utah, and (3) …

The purpose of this study was to study the effects of increased teacher knowledge of students' individual characteristics on students' religious attitudes and achievement in Seminary. It was based upon the rationale that when teachers have more knowledge of each student's characteristics, they can be more effective in planning for individual needs. One result will be that students' behavior and attitudes will be affected positively because their needs are more fully satisfied and interests more effectively utilized.

In more recent years, a greater emphasis by the Church has been placed on preaching the Gospel to Northern Indian tribes, as evidenced by the organization of the Northern Indian Mission in 1964. The purpose of this study was to determine whether LDS sophomore and junior seminary students have significant differences of concern about concepts and attitudes contained in each of the thirty-five Directional Objectives which guide the curriculum of the Seminary System of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The study involved LDS Seminary students from the Burley, Idaho; Arimo, Idaho and Ogden (Weber) Utah seminaries, and consisted of 164 sophomore and 109 junior students.
An instrument was developed called the Student Inventory. It consisted of statements of concern expressed by a cross section of seminary students about the thirty-five …

It was the writer's purpose to determine the reason students discontinued seminary before obtaining a fourth-year certificate from the Burley L. D. S. Seminary between the years 1961-1965. In addition to this, means of helping to solve the problems of the students who discontinued seminary were sought. Questionnaires were sent to 92 students who had discontinued seminary; a questionnaire was also given to 61 students who were still in seminary. The results of these questionnaires were tabulated by the Brigham Young University Data Processing Service. Of the 92 students who discontinued seminary and received questionnaires, 66 (70 per cent) were …

In view of the aforementioned emphasis on the missionary program of the Church there was a felt need by the author, with encouragement from Ernest Eberhard Jr., of the Department of Education, to do a follow-up study to determine what effect the seminary program has had and is now having upon the lives of its graduates now in the mission field. The literature on educational problems and procedures gives considerable emphasis to objectives. Sometimes called aims, goals, or values, the objectives have been variously formulated according to the philosophy and environment of their authors. Great variation is found in the many codes of objectives which have existed and which now are used in education.
In examining the code of general objectives which has been published and circulated throughout the Latter-day Saint Seminary System since 1943, the writer was of the opinion that these objectives were not fully used by the seminary teachers and that they may not be those really desired …

A major objective of the Unified Church School System is to facilitate improved student personal and social adjustment in the seminary program. Little research, as yet, has been completed in the area of seminary guidance services, yet these services offer a prodigious potential for student personal and social adjustment.

It was the purpose of this study (1) to determine the contributions which the use of recorded music may make toward the fulfillment of the objectives of elementary school music education; (2) to determine the directions of musical growth to be fostered through, and some valid teaching principles relative to music listening activities in the elementary school classroom; (3) to make suggestions as to the teaching techniques and the organization of the selected recorded materials which may assist the classroom teacher in promoting a climate favorable to the development of maximum musical growth in each student.

It occupies a more important position in our educational system than it does in the systems of many foreign countries. In fact, most of the teaching in our schools today revolves around the textbook - the cause of much criticism by many writers. They deplore the fact that both our teachers and pupils are dependent on textbooks.
