This study evaluated the impact of a change to the math placement policy at a suburban New York Community College on entering students’ math grades. Before the policy change, the community college required new students to take the College Board ACCUPLACER exam and used those scores to place students into math courses. Under the new policy, students were no longer required to take a placement test, and students' New York State Algebra 1 Regents exam scores were used to determine the appropriate math course placement. School districts play a pivotal role in supporting school leaders in the execution of their responsibilities. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to further uncover how school district bureaucracies enable and hinder the work of principals. Sadly, teacher job satisfaction has been recently depicted as a “portrait of broad teacher discontent” (Phi Delta Kappa, 2019, p. k3), negatively impacting teachers’ well-being and retention. This study employed a mixed-methodological approach, composed of (a) an exploratory factor analysis of participant responses to the Teacher Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (Lester, 1982), (b) two open-ended questions, and (c) the covariates of the participants. Participants were K-12 public teachers (n = 129), employed in Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, and Putnam counties of New York State. The purpose of this study was to investigate the specific experiences and program characteristics that students, faculty, and staff experience in the living-learning communities. This paper summarizes the findings of a program evaluation inclusive of a survey and interview protocol on the student, faculty, and staff experiences in living-learning communities (LLCs) at a large, public university in the southeast. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of Smart Start Career Pathway as a method of supporting student success on the ACT WorkKeys assessment. Since the 1970s, the skills gap has been a national concern as workforce demand has outpaced supply. As a means of connecting individuals to the workforce, Mississippi adopted ACT WorkKeys and the National Career Ready Certificate (NCRC). This study explored the practices that can mitigate a hostile school climate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth and the barriers that negatively affect implementation of those practices. LGBTQ youth are at higher risk for bullying, harassment, and other characteristics of a harsh learning environment, which can result in negative outcomes, both short- and long-term. Principals of West Virginia public high schools were surveyed to collect data on the frequency at which LGBTQ-supportive practices are implemented in their schools and the barriers, if any, they faced. Structured by the theoretical framework of intersectionality, this comparative case study traced perceptions of Whiteness in literacy instruction by three queer, transgender or gender expansive (TGE), or cisgender female, Black and/or Latinx middle school students. The purpose of this quantitative research study was to examine the effectiveness regarding the essential components of the afterschool programming with K-8th grade targeted service students. This study also examined the effectiveness of afterschool programming interventions. Participants included 53 targeted services directors throughout the state of Minnesota. Results suggest rejecting all null hypotheses when examining the effectiveness of essential components of the afterschool programming with K-8th grade targeted service students.
