We analyzed teacher supervision and evaluation policy systems in 30 states since the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 in the United States (US). This qualitative study of state ESSA policy documents and legislation examined how teacher supervision and evaluation systems (TSES) models have been developed under ESSA, specifically regarding how the construction of TSES models conflated formative feedback with summative evaluation. Despite evolving federal-level and state-level education accountability policies spurred by No Child Left Behind (NCLB) in 2001, we argue that TSES systems are influenced by state-level historical political culture (Elazar, 1994; Fowler, 2013), workplace …

In reviewing the poverty literature, the following themes emerged the struggle to define poverty in the United States, characteristics of families in poverty, the impact of poverty on school performance, and the lifelong effects of poverty on children.

A personal story of a public school administrator who grew up in poverty is part of the report. The impact of the experiences of poverty continue to affect the way the individual thinks about poverty and interacts with families who experience poverty.

Transitioning from their training programs to their own classrooms, new teachers may feel a disconnect between what they learned and what they experience. To help with this transition and to promote teachers’ abilities to respond to the varying and unique needs of their students and schools, teacher training programs, beginning in the 1980s, have incorporated the use of reflective practice. Reflection provides teachers an opportunity to engage with their experiences in such a way that prereflective understandings, assumptions, biases, and beliefs may be identified. This instrumental case study examines teacher completion of behavior rating scales for their students diagnosed with ADHD. The researcher used a qualitative approach following Stake’s (1995) approach. Surveys, interviews, classroom observations and review of behavior rating scales were completed to answer the main research question of what information does a teacher use when completing the behavior rating scales for students? Results of the study identified that teachers rely on background knowledge including upbringing when completing the behavior rating scales. Collegial conversations also help to determine the ratings teachers assign to behavior rating scales.

Although school gardens have been increasingly popular in the United States, much existing literature evaluated success of the programs from a limited set of criteria, such as the extent to which gardens reformed student eating habits and nutritional knowledge. Platooning at the elementary level is one example of such an organizational change; however, very little research specifically addresses platooning at the elementary-level. This study was intended to provide relevant information for school leaders to use in their efforts to improve school safety measures. The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers' view of collective efficacy at their schools, the key events teachers cite when discussing their views, and their views on how collective efficacy can be built at their schools. Certificated personnel from three rural schools in Northern California participated in this study. Key findings indicate teachers view communication, collaboration and accountability as key factors to justify their views of collective efficacy at their schools.

Data provided by the Physical Therapy Central Application System (PTCAS) suggests that despite the large numbers of applicants to Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs on an annual basis, a gap remains between the number of White and Black and Latinx applicants who are offered admission to DPT programs. Most public schools in the United States suddenly closed buildings as educators and students scrambled to adapt to distance education. This phenomenological, qualitative study holistically explores elementary educators’ experiences during the extended school closures.
