The purpose of this action research project was to determine if students who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or symptoms of ADHD are able to stay on task more often when they are using alternative seating. Data was taken on students prior to being given alternative seating choices, a data collector ticked every 15 seconds to determine if the student was on task or off task. Data was taken again after the student had used their alternative seating for over a week’s time. Analysis of the data suggests that alternative seating may increase on-task behavior in some children with …

The purpose of this action research project was to determine if detention is better attended when students are assigned to serve with the person who doled out the punishment compared to a catchall detention location where the student may or may not know the adult(s) working the room. This action research looked at whether a personal relationship with a student had a greater effect on attendance than students having to find a room with a person they may or may not know. In this qualitative study, I examined epistemic justice and testimonial injustice experienced by parents of children enrolled in preschool programs. I used a triadic model arising from the synthesis of Fricker’s (2003) markers of epistemic justice, Hoy and Tschannen Moran’s (1999) Five Facets of Trust and Lea’s (2006) markers of collaboration, and employed modified grounded theory (Charmaz, 2008). The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship of gender equity to faculty compensation, career advancement, and access to leadership roles in colleges of business in Finland, Jamaica and the United States. This quantitative study, anchored by feminist, human capital and socialization theories supported the emergence of a conceptual framework of societal gender equity. This framework showed the direct impact of how male and female faculty members are perceived and treated in colleges of business based on societal and cultural norms. The purpose of this action research project is to determine the impact of recess on student engagement. Off-task behavior was observed in students in a fourth grade classroom for four weeks. The first two weeks the students did not receive recess, and the second two weeks the students did receive recess. Quantitative data was collected using the Academic Engagement Monitoring Form (Sprick, Knight, Reinke, and Skyles, 2010). Analysis of the data suggests a positive correlation between recess and on-task behavior.

The purpose of this action research project was to determine if there is a correlation between the implementation of structures and processes for meaningful collaboration and the level of collective efficacy in a professional learning community. A combination of the level of trust among the team and the dedication and prioritization of time were critically considered over a period of nearly two months. Data was collected through quantitative surveys and qualitative observations. Analysis of the data collected suggests the fourth grade team's collective efficacy was strengthened as structures and processes for meaningful collaboration were implemented.

Similarly, the college presidency has changed, relying less on faculty interactions and increasing reliance and interaction on external stakeholders. The result is a less faculty-centric college presidency. The purpose of this study was to conduct a rigorous examination of co-enrollment of students in math remediation and college-level math. A quasi-experimental, posthoc design examined the outcomes and the relationships of two groups of students who participated in a pilot project the goal of which was to assess the co-enrolled model that is designed to provide students with mathematics support. There is a large body of thorough research showing many positive benefits of school choice. However, many questions remain on how school choice works. Rigorous school choice experiments can only determine if access to school choice programs alters student outcomes; they cannot confidently identify the specific mechanisms that mediate various outcomes. Two commonly theorized mechanisms in school choice programs that lead to positive outcomes are (1) an increased access to higher-quality schools and (2) an improved match between schools and students. We explore the relationships between gender, career ambition, and the emergence of executive leadership. In Bureaucratic Ambition, Teodoro (2011) shows that public administration career systems shape bureaucrats’ ambitions, political behavior, and management strategies. But career systems are not neutral conduits of talent: administrators are more likely to pursue advancement when career systems favor them. This research proposes that women and men respond to gendered public career systems. Using national and state-level data on public school managers, we find marked gender disparities in the career paths that lead educators from the classroom to the superintendent post.
