For many years, counseling professionals have tried to advance research in the knowledge and techniques essential to effective multicultural counseling. Despite such efforts, many counselors still have difficulty meeting the needs of ethnic minority clients (Sue & Zane, 1987). According to Stein ( 1997), many multicultural courses present only a broad view of multicultural concepts without adequately preparing practitioners to actually counsel diverse populations. The resulting confusion counselors experience in their relationships with minority clients may be one of the reasons that counseling is underutilized by many cultural groups. My views have changed greatly on the responsibilities of an administrator. The job is not as easy as I first thought. There are many demands placed upon a principal. A principal never knows what to expect and I think that is why the job is now more fascinating to me because it presents a challenge.

Gorton (1991) suggests that an administrator is a manager, instructional leader, disciplinarian, human relations facilitator, evaluator, and conflict mediator. I believe this to be true because a principal has to be more than just the disciplinarian and evaluator of the building.

To develop a global perspective of our interconnectedness we must first understand why we choose to discriminate and emphasize our differences instead of identifying and embracing our similarities.

Most discrimination evolves from fear -- fear of the unknowns, fear of someone who "looks different," fear of someone with whom we cannot easily communicate, fear of loss, fear of a group" complete with preconceived characteristics. A Study Of The Relationship Between Consumer Satisfaction And Direct Care Staff Turnover In An Agency For The Developmentally Disabled, Delia B. Root

This study examined the relationship between direct care staff turnover and consumer satisfaction in an agency for the developmentally disabled. Twenty out of a possible 42 individuals with a developmental disability participated in the survey. There was a significant relationship between staff turnover and consumer satisfaction of day habilitation services. No significant relationship was evident in the areas of residential habilitation or respite. The findings indicate that agencies may need to prioritize direct care staffing patterns to reduce the negative effect on consumer satisfaction.
