This study was designed to examine the relationship between the self-perceived preferred brain hemispheric processing of West Virginia public school principals and their self-perceived leadership styles. Seventy-five respondents completed the Herrmann Brain Dominance Profile, the Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire, and a demographics sheet. Data were analyzed using the General Linear Model of the Statistical Analysis Systems (SAS). Chi Square analyses at the 0.05 alpha level were used to test two directional hypotheses that guided this study. Both hypotheses were confirmed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between a principal’s self-perceived leader style, self-perceived job stress and self-reported demographics.

The three null hypotheses were answered by analyzing data collected from a stratified random sampling of elementary and secondary principals in the West Virginia public school system. A three part questionnaire was used to collect the data. The first section of the questionnaire consisted of twelve statements regarding demographic information. The data were collected through use of two instruments, the “Behavioral Characteristics Rating Form” from Leadership Styles A Behavioral Matrix, and the “Survey of West Virginia County Superintendents” questionnaire.

The purpose of this study was to explore administrator compliance orientation and teacher personality relationships and differences between Catholic private and public school organizations in West Virginia. The Personality Research Form, Form E (Jackson, 1974) was administered to 41 teachers of a Catholic private school organization and to 38 teachers of a public school organization. Statistical analysis of the Personality Research Form, Form E (PRF-E) data using an ANOVA method revealed significant differences between the school organizational groups for 5 of the 22 personality traits measured. This study was designed to examine the expectations held by key administrative personnel within West Virginia’s county school systems regarding the role of the special education administrator. Seven functional areas of administration containing forty specific tasks were examined to identify potential areas of conflict among and between special education administrators, superintendents and principals. Data resulting from 202 returns of the questionnaires and demographic surveys from the 260 individuals contacted were analyzed to test fourteen null hypotheses. The problem investigated was the degree of incongruence between the perceptions of nursing education administrators and nursing service administrators in regard to the educational preparation and employment practices for technical and professional nurses which has contributed to discontent in the profession. The population studied was nursing education administrators in AD and BSN programs and nursing service administrators in general acute care hospitals in West Virginia. The research method was a descriptive survey using a mailed questionnaire developed by a researcher. The functions of the superintendency are crucial to the organization and administration of a public school system. Yet, despite the importance of this position, objective and systematic procedures and processes concerning the identification and evaluation of superintendents’ job functions are seldom employed. The result has been “wide-spread dissatisfaction with superintendents’ evaluation and performance appraisal programs by both superintendents and boards.” Casual, unspecified evaluations of superintendents lead to the development of misunderstandings between school boards and superintendents and interfere with “the efficient conversion of board policy into school system practice.”

The purposes of this study were (1) to project the enrollments and resulting student credit hours produced for each institution of higher education in West Virginia between 1963 and 1975 and (2), based on enrollments and other factors, to project the operating budget needs for each institution between 1963 and 1975.

Projections were made for each of the twenty institutions of higher education in West Virginia and for state higher education as a whole. Primary importance of the findings was in the application by each institution in long-range institutional research and planning.

This study revealed that the West Virginia Forestry Camp has in its legal machinery the purpose of rehabilitating male juvenile offenders between the ages of 16 and 21. However, no overt statements of educational objectives were found in the rehabilitative program.
