Clozentropy Procedure As An Instrument For Measuring Oral English Competencies Of First Grade Children., Hazel Viola Craker Dec 1971

Clozentropy Procedure As An Instrument For Measuring Oral English Competencies Of First Grade Children., Hazel Viola Craker

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Testing of oral English competencies in preliterate children has had two basic problems: tests were either specific to a particular program of instruction or were inefficient in terms of breadth of coverage of the complex language skills required for adequate communication. Cloze Procedure showed promise of efficient sampling of language skills unrelated to any specific instructional program, but was limited by inadequate scoring precision. Clozentropy Procedure in 1968 provided a precise mathematical scoring technique for Cloze Procedure and a valid and reliable measure of the compatibility of the English of foreign university students with that of native university students in …

Teacher Effectiveness:A Study Of The Relationship Between Teacher Personality Characteristics And Anxiety In Elementary Pupils., Ervin F. Holle Nov 1971

Teacher Effectiveness:A Study Of The Relationship Between Teacher Personality Characteristics And Anxiety In Elementary Pupils., Ervin F. Holle

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

From the theoretical and research literature on personality, interaction and teacher characteristics, a general hypothesis was formulated:

Personality maladjustment of a teacher generates personality maladjustment in the pupils in that teacher's classroom resulting in the pupils' failure to incorporate appropriate information and the maintenance of a state of high anxiety.

Reformulated operationally the hypothesis became: Personality maladjustment of a teacher, as measured by the MMPI, results in the maintenance of high levels of anxiety, as measured by the Sarason anxiety scales, in the pupils of that teacher's classroom.

Forty teachers responded to the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and were scored …

Altruistic Therapy, Stephen H. Field Oct 1971

Altruistic Therapy, Stephen H. Field

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

This dissertation consists of a model of therapy, Altruistic Therapy, as developed by the author and a study to evaluate its efficacy. Altruistic Therapy, which focuses on getting versus giving, consists of helping people recognize their self-defeating patterns of getting and helps them learn to give to themselves and others so that they can come to appreciate themselves and improve their interpersonal relationships. Getting (as defined) is self-defeating because it reinforces feelings of deficiency, places one in a self-defeating bind and disrupts effective communications, cutting one off from others. Giving (as defined) is therapeutic because it focuses on an individual's …

A Measurement Study Of Attitudinal Interactions Of Selected Vocational School Teachers And Students Concerning Attendance And Grades With Implications For Administrator Training, James L. Maw

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

This study was designed to measure attitudinal interactions of selected vocational school teachers and students concerning grades and attendance, school policy problems, at a Technical Vocational Institute. This was done in an attempt to determine whether students and teachers viewed themselves and existing attendance and grading policy as constants or variables. It was assumed that those receiving scores indicating they considered themselves constants would be more likely to support the existing policy while those receiving scores indicating they considered themselves variables would be more likely to desire a policy change.

Teachers and student attitudinal interactions were measured and plotted on …

Reports By Native And Non-Native Speakers Of English On Their Strategies On The Cloze Procedure: Implications For Language Proficiency Testing And Language Learning, Thomas Emil Beck

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

This study utilizes an interview procedure to elicit self-report, or intuitive, data from a sample of native and non-native speakers of English, all university students, on their recall of their strategies on the cloze procedure. Interview procedures appear not to have been previously used in the study of behavior on integrative language tests. Thus the primary methodological goal of this study was to determine if the interview procedure would produce valid information of practical use both to language testing specialists and to language teachers. A second major goal was to determine how the use of strategies might differ among native …

The purpose of this study was to ascertain the perceptions of principals of junior high and middle schools concerning what they felt to be important in the preparation of teachers of …

The Analysis Of Missing Data And Its Computer Implementation, John Phillips Grillo May 1971

The Analysis Of Missing Data And Its Computer Implementation, John Phillips Grillo

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

The major problem for investigation was to get useful information out of missing data, where missing data were defined as items not answered on a returned questionnaire. The author developed a scheme of analysis which can provide information not otherwise obtainable to a researcher using questionnaires. A model developed to categorize missing data was based on the reaction of the subject answering the questionnaire. The model rests on the notion the subject's avoidance reaction to the questionnaire item is his measurable attribute at that time. The mathematical development of the scheme of analysis uses the dichotomy of possible answers--the subject …
