The purposes of this study were to 1) determine the role the principal plays in leading school improvement, and 2) examine the relationship between change implemented and student achievement. Three high-performing, high-needs Title l schools and four low-performing, high-needs Title I schools were identified through lndimm Department of Education data. The high-performing schools met Adequate Yearly Progress in 2006, whereas the low-performing schools did not and were in at least year two of the school improvement cycle. The purpose of this study was to explore the persistence strategies used by Black men attending a predominantly White institution (PWI), classified as sophomore, junior and senior. In order to determine these persistence strategies, a phenomenology qualitative research approach was selected. Over the last half century, more than forty states across the nation have experienced school finance lawsuits as a consequence of funding gaps between rich and poor districts. Arkansas is one such state, with a long history of school funding battles in the courts. The legal challenges began in 1983, when the Arkansas Supreme Court initially found the state's school funding system unconstitutional under the equal protection clause of the state constitution1 . The court found “no legitimate state purpose” and “no rational relationship to educational needs” in the state's method of financing public schools. This initial finding set the …

This paper examines the difference between how a coach motivates an athlete or fosters a climate for motivation versus how a teacher motivates a student or fosters a climate for motivation. One way to examine how coaches and teachers motivate their athletes and students is to examine the roles of coaches and teachers as motivators. Examining the roles of coaches and teachers as motivators and the subsequent discussion of how the roles of coaches as motivators could inform the roles of teachers as motivators seeks to satisfy society's call for teacher accountability.

The national school library guidelines place the greatest emphasis upon the teaching and learning component of school library programs led by professional school librarians. Despite findings linking school library programming, including instruction by professional school librarians, to increased student achievement on standardized tests and improved content learning through student inquiry using library resources, the importance of the instructional role of the school librarian remains largely unrecognized by administrators and teachers.

The study's objective was to gain an understanding of presidential longevity by gathering archival data. This quantitative study collected data about eight predictor variables that included the Carnegie classification, gender, institutional status (public or private), institutional wealth, insider/outsider status, institutional quality, reporting line, and prior experience for two Carnegie classification groups that included doctoral and baccalaureate liberal arts institutions (N = 4 71 ). In this study, the researcher examined the leadership orientation of Indiana public school superintendents, utilizing the Leadership Orientations (Self) survey developed by Bolman and Deal (1997). This study sought to identify if a significant difference existed between a superintendent's choice of a dominant leadership frame of reference, and independent variables: gender, years of experience as a superintendent, school district setting, and initial educational level of training. Surveys were sent to 294 public school superintendents, a total of 162 or 55% of the superintendents participated in this study. This study, conducted in 2006, presented several findings. How “good” are the schools in Arkansas? Under the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001, the current measure of a school’s success in Arkansas and around the country is based on whether its students meet the adequate yearly progress (AYP) benchmark on annual standardized tests. Those schools not making AYP are placed on the list of schools “in need of improvement” and therefore must give expanded educational choice (including school transfers and/or free tutoring) to eligible students. In recent years community colleges have faced both internal and external challenges in maintaining the college mission. Primarily these challenges connect with funding challenges and the evolving nature of community college funding patterns. This comparative case study assesses two community colleges in contrasting settings within the same state.
