The purpose of the study was twofold. First, the study attempted to predict how post-secondary two-year college faculty embraced change as measured by the Stages of Concern Questionnaire (SoCQ). Second, the study assessed whether formal training in the use of assessment centers would affect the concerns, attitudes and perceptions of college faculty at a post-secondary two-year institution about the implementation ofthe assessment center innovation in their institutions. This study used existing data collected by Ivy Tech State College- Wabash Valley Region. This report presents some early evaluation evidence on the effectiveness and impact of the implementation of the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI). The goal of the Year One evaluation, which is being conducted by the Maine Education Policy Research Institute (MEPRI), is to provide policymakers and practitioners with information that will assist them in determining whether or not, and to what degree, the vision and goals of the MLTI are being achieved. The Year One design is focusing primarily on the students who entered seventh grade in September 2002, and their teachers and schools.

Postmodernism has often been excoriated in Christian circles for its departure from commonly recognized principles of truth seeking. How can we, as educators, help students grapple wisely with this pervasive worldview in the context of encouraging a biblical and vibrant development of their faith? Are there components within postmodernism that might help inform students’ faith development? This article will examine social constructionism, a variant of postmodernism, from the lens of Christian faith and spirituality, and will attempt to answer some of those questions.

Fostering moral development has been an important goal of American higher education throughout its history. This goal has become especially prominent in light of recent developments related to crime, ethical indifference and deteriorating social structures. This topic is of particular relevance to faith-based institutions as the fostering of moral development is vitally related to their collective mission and purposes.

As Christian higher education institutions increasingly engage in continuous quality improvement and outcome measurement, research on spiritual development is filtering down to undergraduate business programs. This paper presents lessons learned from a pilot cross-sectional survey of Abilene Christian University undergraduate business students who completed the Faith Maturity Scale (Benson, Donahue & Erickson, 1993) and responded to other questions about faith development. Based on the results, a number of helpful observations were made for the ACU business program. A method and process for assessing spiritual development at multiple Christian colleges is proposed.

This qualitative study was conducted to elucidate the current understandings about what is known about the African American pathway from seemingly oppressive beginnings to educational leadership positions. It was an investigation of five African American male leaders from Jacksonville, Florida, and their individual and collective perceptions on what enabled them to educationally succeed despite their humble beginnings. The study explored the similarities, differences, and historical experiences of all five of the African American male leaders purposefully chosen for this research. The Lwo purposes of this mixed-methodology sludy were to: (1) examine or quantitatively analyze the relationship between leacher perception of principal effectiveness and principal perception of principal effectiveness, and (2) qualitatively investigate the differences between what more effective principals and less effective principals do to impact school climate. iii Procedures. The role of goal conflict on job satisfaction within auxiliary enterprise units at Western Michigan University was the focus of this study. The continuing decline in state appropriations has caused state-funded colleges and universities to change their operational model in order to become more fiscally responsible. This change in operational focus has led to a shift in the balance between the goal of educating students and the goal of generating revenue. Social Responsiblity And Types Of Service Learning: A Comparison Of Curricular Service Learning, Co-Curricular Service Learning, And Traditional Community Service, Jay Richardson Cooper

Dissertations

This study investigated social responsibility among college students involved in three different types of service learning. Social responsibility, the dependent variable, was analyzed using scores on the Social Responsibility Inventory. Three institutions, representative of Masters I Colleges and Universities, were involved in the study and 198 students completed the questionnaire. A one-way analysis of variance was run, which demonstrated that there was a significant difference among the mean scores on the Social Responsibility Inventory in the three types of service learning. Type of service learning, the independent variable, included traditional community service, co-curricular service learning, and curricular service learning. Traditional …

Christian colleges wrestle with the creation and maintenance of regulations for correct behavior of campus members (lifestyle agreements). Using theoretical considerations as well as specific application examples, a way is presented to create a lifestyle agreement that is internally consistent and fits the needs of the campus. Specifically, the effect of external constituencies, organizational efficiency, and, most importantly, efforts to develop community, are used to guide the construction of lifestyle agreements. As students are increasingly influenced by postmodern thought, which promotes ideas of community without a common center and emphasizes difference, so students may have fresh conceptualizations of what community is and how it functions. This study explored students' conceptions, experiences, and ideals of community.

The tension between commonality and diversity within community has caused much debate in the social sciences. Interviewees, who were students at member institutions of the CCCU, recognize the same tension and often struggle to navigate their relationships within a collegiate environment that promotes both.
