Every year brings a group of new recruits into the educational system. This particular handbook contains valuable information on the past history and specific terminology required of one who will teach in this area. Special emphasis was given to the educational system in the Marshall Islands.

It was the purpose of this study to determine if games designed to teach phonics would improve phonetic skills as measured on the Lyons and Carnahan Developmental Reading Test. The null hypothesis investigated was that there would be no difference between groups receiving classroom game experience in phonic skills and groups receiving workbook experiences in phonic skills.

This study was made to determine whether programmed reading materials could correct some of the reading difficulties that develop in children more effectively than the conventional basal approach to reading. Other purposes were to evaluate (1) the financial and administrative feasibility of programmed materials, (2) their effectiveness in individualizing instruction in reading, and (3) the benefits and/or hindrances these materials were to the teacher and students while working in a self-contained classroom situation.

It was the purpose of this study to survey previous education and experience of industrial arts teachers of the junior and senior high schools in the state of Washington for the 1968-69 school year. This was accomplished utilizing the survey method. This study was undertaken in order to gain knowledge as to the qualifications of present industrial arts teachers. On the basis of results obtained, conclusions were reached which may assist educators in evaluating teacher qualifications as well as their own industrial arts program.

This report presents national normative data on the characteristics of students entering colleges as first-time, full-time freshmen in 1969. It is the fourth such annual report developed as part of the Cooperative Institutional Research Program being conducted by the Office of Research of the American Council on Education.
