The purpose of this field study was to develop an instrument which could be used by school administrators in the State of Illinois for certified staff selection. Research topics utilized include the interview process, qualities of effective teachers, and legal guidelines for interviewing. The instrument will focus on the five areas of teacher evaluation mandated by Illinois as components of effective teaching: classroom management, lesson planning and organization, teaching techniques, competence and attendance. A study is made of Gordon J. Klopf, the educator, focusing on the years that he has been at Bank Street. His approach, method and style of working with adult learners are examined, from the time he left Teacher's College in the 1960's to come to work at Bank Street. The role that he played in developing various programs is discussed as well as the effect that his teaching has had on the personal and professional development of educational staff at all levels. A professional biographical statement is included as an appendix.

The purpose of this study was to compare the priority ratings given to evaluative criteria of four groups within the education profession--superintendents, secondary supervisors, secondary principals, and secondary teachers. The research sought to determine whether or not factors of agreement existed among the four groups of people regarding their attitudes toward important teacher characteristics. A total of fifty-two subjects from four occupational roles was used: thirteen superintendents, thirteen supervisors, thirteen principals, and thirteen teachers. The subjects were administered the Teacher Characteristics Q Sort, a ninety-item sort of adjectives. The results were factor analyzed, and four significant factors emerged. Factor A …

Basic research into the observation and evaluation of elementary teachers in Illinois was conducted during the 1976-77 school year. The research was divided into two major sections. Section I consisted of the development and administration of a 42-question survey instrument designed to probe observations, evaluations, and elementary teachers' opinions concerning such. The sample universe was restricted to full-time elementary classroom teachers taking graduate courses. Section II consisted of obtaining and analyzing evaluation instruments from various size and type school districts in Illinois. Significant findings of the research include:

This study was made to gain information pertinent to assessing the effectiveness of the Association of Washington School Principals in meeting the needs of its members who are elementary school principals. The study indicated that a majority of the respondents felt that Association was doing an adequate job. However, a significant relationship was found to exist between principals from small districts and the feeling of inadequate representation.
Due to the newness of this Association, it is recommended that a similar study be done in the future.

The purpose of this study was to discover which professional organization structure would best provide optimum conditions for Washington State's middle school principals to develop the middle school concept.
A questionnaire was used to determine if middle school principals desired the formation of a separate middle school principals' association. These principals indicated that they did not desire such an association. By majority, the middle school principals chose the Washington Association of Junior High & Middle School Principals to represent them.

This study proposes to see what percent of the principals surveyed, by means of a questionnaire, agree or disagree that they fulfilled the stated roles for developing curriculum for use in a "cooperative" team teaching approach to instruction in their schools. This study also proposes to test the following null hypothesis: There is no significant difference between the responses made on each role by principals in an urban or suburban school setting.
