All new course proposals and changes to the 'master' syllabus in the General Education curriculum, must be submitted for review and approval by the General Education Committee.

Student Learning

Proposals for new academic programs or organizational units should be submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs after college and departmental approval. Academic Affairs will guide the proposals through the appropriate internal and external review procedures.

All proposals must be accompanied with o cover memo from the Deon's Office stating that the proposal has received the appropriate college and deportment/school approvals, and that implementation of the proposal is recommended. All proposals should be submitted in a word document.

Much research has been conducted on the topic of self-efficacy and its relationship to student performance. In alignment with the theory of self-efficacy and research performed by Bandura (1993), Schunk (1989, 1991), Zimmerman (1985, 1990), Multon, Brown and Lent (1991); and others, the purpose of this action research study was to determine the relationship of student voluntary attendance at a minimum of one of two optional exam review sessions and whether or not it resulted in a feeling of increased confidence about their potential performance on the exam compared to those students who did not attend the review. In the Iraq and Afghanistan war context, studies have found that military-connected youth—youth with parents and/or siblings serving in the military—have higher rates of school victimization than their nonmilitary-connected peers. A positive school climate—where students perceive high levels of school connectedness, caring relationships and high expectations from adults, and meaningful participation—is associated with lower rates of victimization in secondary public schools. Based on a survey of 7th, 9th, and 11th grade students (n=14,493) enrolled in six military-connected school districts (districts that have a significant proportion of military-connected students), this study explores victimization rates and the role of school climate, deployment, …

Veteran Teacher Engagement In Site-Based Professional Development: A Mixed Methods Study, Biaze L. Houston

This research study examined how teachers self-report their levels of engagement, which factors they believe contribute most to their engagement, and which assumptions of andragogy most heavily influence teacher engagement in site-based professional development. This study employed a convergent parallel mixed methods design to study veteran teachers' perceptions of engagement in site-based professional development using the assumptions of andragogy as the theoretical lens. The study began with both a quantitative and qualitative phase that was conducted simultaneously. The purpose of this quantitative study was to explore the relationship between transformative school principal leadership and school climate. The population of this study consisted of two middle schools with grades ranging from six through eight and one high school with grades ranging from nine through twelve. These schools are within the state of Texas. Quantitative data were obtained by using two instruments, the Principal Leadership Questionnaire (Jantzi & Leithwood, 1996) and the School Climate Assessment Instrument (Alliance for the Study of School Climate, 2014), and evaluated to determine if (a) correlations exist between the factors of transformational leadership and …

Factors Influencing Math And Science Teacher Intentions To Leave Or Stay In The Teaching Profession, Scott Douglass

The purpose of this study was to identify factors that have the greatest influence on math and science teacher intentions to stay in or leave the teaching profession. The independent variables included in this study were: perceived administrative support, influence over classroom and school policies and procedures, salary satisfaction, and stress associated with teaching. A survey was sent to math and science teachers in central Virginia containing questions largely derived from the School and Staffing Survey. Stress associated with teaching and job satisfaction were significant predictors of intent to stay in teaching for teachers. Based on the results of this …

A panel of 32 reviewers analyzed the Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs) of same sample of 29 districts for the second year of implementation of the 2013 California Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). Using the same four questions as the Year 1 report, the Year 2 analysis also addresses the key differences between first and second-year LCAPs. Key findings from the Year 2 LCAPs review include: (1) similarly weak responses to the needs of ELs by LEAs in Year 2; (2) some improvement in clarity about services provided to ELs in some areas, though most evidence was weak; (3) …
