Information Utility, Reader Interest, Publication Rating And Student Newspaper Readership, Carolyn Lin
Journal of the Association for Communication Administration
This article investigates student motivations for reading a college student paper, including evaluations of performance and content preferences. The declining interest in newspaper readership, particularly among college-age readers has attracted concern among scholars in recent years. In a democracy founded on freedom of the press, fewer than 40% of adults today under the age of 30 subscribe to a paper. This suggests that time spent with newspapers continues to decline even as new media use accounts for the bulk of audience leisure.

A comprehensive, public university, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNOmaha) is located in the heart of Nebraska's largest city. Situated on 88.5 acres and surrounded by beautiful parks and residential neighborhoods, the University is easily accessed by three of Omaha's main arteries: Dodge Street, 72nd Street and 60th Street. The Peter Kiewit Institute of Information Science, Technology and Engineering is located on a 70-acre parcel of land at 67th and Pacific streets. This project seeks to find out the factors which have influenced students in their choice of a private higher education institution in Petaling Jaya. A questionnaire was administered to 71 students of the Foundation Programme in the selected institution. It secured a total response rate of 100%. The questionnaire was divided into two parts. Part One obtained the demographic characteristics of the respondents while Part Two established the level of influence each of the factors has on the respondents' choice of the college. Six areas of influence with a total of 34 questions guided the questionnaire design. The areas included …

Little effort is made to study the role of headteachers in the eastern context, including Pakistan. This paper is based on the study conducted in the government and non-government schools in Pakistan in order to understand headteachers ' role in terms of the emerging demands, constraints and choices. The study suggests that the government school headteachers seem to be less proactive and more interested in maintaining status quo because of the influence of the 'topdown management model'. The study also suggests that the government headteachers have limited choices and many constraints because of the influence of the bureaucratic system. Their …

Maxwell and Rubin examine the capacity of career academies to address academic reform in terms of increased education and workplace skills. They accomplish this on two levels. First, they assess academies' development and implementation within an urban school district. Then they assess academies' potential to promote postsecondary success among academy students as compared to nonacademy students. Their findings will help educators and policymakers better understand the strengths and limitations of this method of reform.

For many graduate teaching assistants, the task of planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling classroom environments can be overwhelming. Empirical research pertaining to major classroom management problems experienced by TAs is scarce. This article is a report of a survey study regarding TA classroom management at a large, land-grant Research 1 University. The study provides specific information about TAs’ perceptions of classroom management experiences and concerns based on TA type, gender, teaching experience, and academic discipline. The results of the study indicate that international and U.S. TAs experienced many common problems, but each of the two types of TAs also had …
