The Establishment Of A Student Self-Scheduling System At Greenville High School, Bill Wells

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study is to explain the mechanics involved with a scheduling system which will reduce student schedule changes and promote a smoother start to the academic school year.

The study will not only trace the history of self-scheduling at Effingham High School beginning in 1975 but will outline the method used to continue a similar scheduling system at Greenville High School in 1978.

As a guidance counselor at Effingham High School starting in the school year of 1974, I was dissatisfied with the scheduling system. Not surprisingly, the other two guidance personnel plus most of the teaching …

Administrative Internship, Mt. Zion Community School District #3, James D. Price Jan 1980

Administrative Internship, Mt. Zion Community School District #3, James D. Price

Masters Theses

Ideally, the best approach to learning administration for educational institutions is to observe the work of administrators in the field. While it is overly pretentious to advocate ascertaining all functions of one office, it is possible to develop a working knowledge of the primary responsibilities involved in several positions, namely, the central office administration.

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, the Assistant Superintendent, and the Director of Guidance for Mt. Zion Schools this writer has acquired such working knowledge. Although the basic theory for role development of each of these positions is transmitted in this paper, it is …

The Development Of A Student Handbook For The Argenta-Oreana Middle School, Michael Schmitz Jan 1980

The Development Of A Student Handbook For The Argenta-Oreana Middle School, Michael Schmitz

Masters Theses

The development of a student handbook for the Middle School students of the Argenta-Oreana School District was the object of this particular field study. The handbook previously used by the students was merely an overview of the rules and regulations and was definitely lacking in detail and explanation. Our high school has a student handbook, but the distinct differences between the operation of the high school and the middle school would not permit the use of the same handbook for both buildings. It was through experiences of my four years of employment as middle school principal, directives from the board …

The Transportation Program In Illinois School Districts, Lenard A. Defend

Masters Theses

This field study, which is an examination of the transportation program in a local school district in Illinois, gives special attention to what is expected of a local district by the state of Illinois. Many of those expectations are found in the school code as regulations for the local school district in its transportation program.

Though this field experience, which was done in the Shelbyville Community Unit Schools during the fall semester, 1979, is a summary of transportation practices in one school district, it does contain information of a general nature which may be of interest. Much of the information …

The Positive Approach: In-School Alternatives To Suspension, Gary Bryan Layton

Masters Theses

The purpose of this field experience was to develop what the writer felt would be the major areas or components of a workable program concerned with in-school alternatives to suspension. Upon completion of the development of the eleven components of the alternative program to suspension, the writer chose to entitle the program, The Positive Approach, In-School Alternatives to Suspension.

Due to the large number of out-of-school suspensions in school systems each year, and the widespread disillusion with out-of-school suspension as a disciplinary procedure, school administrators are beginning to develop in-school alternative programs to suspension.

The instituting of an in-school alternative …

The Need, Development And Implementation Of A Student/Parent Handbook For Warrensburg-Latham High School, Roger T. Mitchell

Masters Theses

The project selected for completion of my degree evolved from numerous situations experienced during my first year as Assistant Principal at Warrensburg-Latham High School, where I was primarily responsible for dealing with student discipline.

Early in the school year it became evident that the existing student handbook was not as diverse or explicit as I felt should be necessary. In continual discussions with the principal it was concluded that a new student handbook should be implemented for the following school term. I operated through the remainder of the 1978-79 school year with the existing laminated folder type handbook, which consistently …
