Phenomenological Study On Veteran Resource Center (Vrc) In California Community Colleges, Darl Park
Phenomenological Study On Veteran Resource Center (Vrc) In California Community Colleges, Darl Park
Education (PhD) Dissertations
Since the implementation of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the largest student veteran enrollments have taken place at community colleges. Student veterans are considered at-risk students due to their high attrition rates in higher education. There is a lack of literature regarding the experiences of staff responsible for providing support services to student veterans in higher education. Veterans Resource Center (VRC) is the one-stop center for student veterans to help them navigate administrative processes and address any concerns toward degree completion. Thus, VRCs play a major role in student veterans’ academic success, and further exploration of their experiences and voices is …

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study investigated the leadership roles and challenges senior international officers (SIOs) face in the internationalization of regional comprehensive universities in the United States. The study also explored senior international officers’ understanding of internationalization in the context of regional comprehensive universities, and the strategies they utilize to address the challenges they face. A qualitative approach, specifically an interpretive phenomenological analysis, was employed to conduct this research. Twelve in-depth interviews were conducted with SIOs from five U.S. regions: West, Midwest, South, Southeast, and Northwest. Findings show that senior international officers at regional comprehensive universities perceive internationalization as a tool to train …

In today’s world, to address the most pressing global challenges, education must equip all learners with the values, skills, and knowledge that nurture cooperation, resilience, respect for diversity, gender justice, and human rights. This concept is called Global Citizenship Education which is a target of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education.
I commend the Mission 4.7 initiative facilitated by Columbia University’s Center for Sustainable Development, UNESCO, UN SDSN and the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, for playing a pivotal role in addressing SDG Target 4.7 and on the release of the “Fostering Youth-led Innovations to Accelerate Progress …

In addition, AFA pillars include advancing the research of the fraternity and sorority community to engage in and provide scholarly work to higher education professionals. In the fall of 2021, the University of Texas at El Paso hosted the Piazza Center for Fraternity …
Alumni Giving From Online Learners: A Logistic Regression Study, Jaqlyne S. Jackson
Alumni Giving From Online Learners: A Logistic Regression Study, Jaqlyne S. Jackson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Alumni giving is increasingly important to the vitality of institutions of higher education. With governmental financial support of public institutions steadily declining, understanding philanthropic giving is more important than ever. Advancement offices that serve alumni populations benefit from analyzing predictors of the behavioral phenomenon of charitable giving. It is also known that enrollment in distance education programs is on the rise in the United States. For university administrators and advancement professionals to be proactive in cultivating relationships with alumni that attended through an online modality, more research was needed to understand what motivates philanthropic giving from this alumni constituency. Using …

Data Analytics And Compliance With Aacsb Accounting Technology Standards: A Critically Appraised Topic, Gregory J. Tanzola
Data Analytics And Compliance With Aacsb Accounting Technology Standards: A Critically Appraised Topic, Gregory J. Tanzola
Engaged Management ReView
As technology accelerates and gains importance in the accounting industry, the inclusion of technology in accounting curricula also becomes more important. Indeed, this inclusion is a requirement of the academic accounting accrediting body, The American Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). However, neither minimal guidance nor standards for meeting the technology requirements currently exist. This topic paper examines how academic accounting departments may address data analytics as a component of the AACSB’s technology requirement. The analysis synthesizes peer-reviewed articles exploring how data analytics are being integrated into accounting curricula and identifies three main concerns: (1) the need for …

The interview and survey centered on the experience of Catholic identity, elements of Catholic identity, and the challenges of Catholic identity at DePaul. Five challenges of Catholic identity were …
“No One’S Hearing Me”: A Grounded Theory Case Study Of One University's Institutional Discourse And Women Staff Perceptions Of Campus Climate, Lorianne Crowder
“No One’S Hearing Me”: A Grounded Theory Case Study Of One University's Institutional Discourse And Women Staff Perceptions Of Campus Climate, Lorianne Crowder
Student Theses
This qualitative case study explores the relationship between institutional discourse and women staff perceptions of campus climate at one public university. Through a critically informed grounded theory approach, findings revealed how ambiguous institutional values functioned as empty signifiers which, while aimed at creating the image of inclusivity, were subject to various interpretations that may have fostered conditions for the dismissal of care ethics and relational knowledge expressed by women staff. Embedded hierarchies also persisted, shaping recognition of women staff along gendered, racialized, and professional lines. Despite exclusionary discourse cultivating climates of epistemic marginalization, women staff exhibited agency through connection and …

Financial Decision-Making Among Community College Leaders, Misty Dubois Slayter
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this qualitative study was to learn about financial decision-making practices of community college chancellors. This study employed an instrumental case study with three embedded cases guided by organizational decision-making theory and distributive leadership perspective. Participants were community college chancellors within the same college system. Primary data for this study included questionnaire responses, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis using constant comparative method. Chancellors deemed budget shortfalls, programs, and self-generated revenue as major decisions. Chancellors in the study used financial reports to make decisions about programs, to design organizational structure and practice, and to construct college budgets—all of which …

Development And Validation Of An Instrument To Evaluate Social Media Engagement With Millennial Alumni, Megan Robinson Smith
Doctoral Dissertations
Higher education leaders may need assistance creating engaging social media content for alumni. Research questions for the current study included: What values, attitudes, and behavior variables are associated with engaging millennials? What motivations and gratification variables are associated with engaging millennials on social media? How would university leaders use the instrument to assess engagement with millennial alumni via social media through an understanding of millennial values, attitudes, behaviors, motivations, and gratifications variables? Both generation and uses and gratification theories provided the frameworks for developing the instrument. The study used the modified Delphi method to create the instrument. Building the instrument …

The Challenges Of Minoritized Contingent Faculty In Higher Education, Edna Chun, Alvin Evans
The Challenges Of Minoritized Contingent Faculty In Higher Education, Edna Chun, Alvin Evans
Navigating Careers in Higher Education Series
The Challenges of Minoritized Contingent Faculty in Higher Education offers a probing and unvarnished look at the employment challenges of these faculty members in four-year institutions. With dramatic shifts in the faculty workforce and nearly three-quarters of instructional positions in United States institutions now off the tenure track, contingent faculty have become the essential, frontline workers of higher education. Remarkably little research attention has focused on the experiences of minoritized contingent faculty in this new academic underclass. Based on in-depth interviews coupled with extensive research, the book highlights the double marginalization that can occur due to secondary employment status in …

Are The Housing Staff Alright? A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Examination Of The Experiences Of On-Campus Student Housing Professionals Through The Covid-19 Pandemic, Megan J. Chibanga
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
College and university housing professionals served a role they were generally underprepared for as long-term crisis managers during the global COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted and shifted higher education operating structures on a grand scale, and housing staff were asked to continue operating on-campus housing facilities throughout the ever-changing response to COVID-19. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to understand the lived experiences of housing professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the collective experiences of 21 participants three major threads emerged: comfort in the unknown, a need for connection and community, and relentless resilience. Each of these …
