Quality Advancement in Nursing Education - Avancées en formation infirmière
Background: Nurse educators’ transition to a concept-based curriculum requires organizational and administrative support as well as collaborative teamwork. Implementing curricular changes can be challenging. One-on-one interviews were conducted with nurse educators who shared their perspectives on transitioning from a traditional to a newly adopted concept-based baccalaureate nursing curriculum.
Objective: This study explores nurse educators’ perceptions of change as they transitioned from a traditional four-year (eight-semester) baccalaureate nursing curriculum to a three-year (eight-semester) concept-based curriculum.
Method: The researchers used a qualitative descriptive design. Six nurse educators were recruited using purposive sampling. The interviews were conducted by a nurse educator new to …

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
A need for current science education has emerged in enhancing students’ deep involvement in scientific practices in core disciplines. Students are encouraged to improve crosscutting concepts and disciplinary core ideas through authentic science practice through constructing theories about the real world, generating questions, conducting investigations, revising theories, and communicating and collaborating. A new education model addresses these needs by transforming classrooms into collaborative knowledge building communities. However, there are challenges confronting the education system: (a) helping students build high responsibility to contribute to their collaborative inquiry progress and (b) supporting teachers to act as co-learners. To address these challenges, this …

Q2S Enhancing Pedagogy
There is a new and emerging approach to healthcare which is gaining momentum. It is called Precision Health (PH). This approach promises to maximize the benefits of medical interventions for an individual patient to achieve a more precise and safe care. In contrast to providing standardized care protocols (set of medical orders for a patient complaint, e.g. stroke procedures), which is outdated, this new treatment approach uses advances in scientific and technological innovations in patient care. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2019) calls on educators to integrate Precision Health in nursing curricula. The Department of Nursing at California …

Mathematics Without Calculations – It’S A Beautiful Thing!, Jason J. Molitierno
Mathematics Faculty Publications
All students should have the opportunity to do mathematics in a meaningful way for the sheer fun of it. Such experiences, if well designed, improve students’ effective thinking skills, increase their appreciation of the beauty and utility of mathematics, and prepare them to be mathematically-literate members of society. This session invites talks on how we can engage the liberal arts student through courses specifically designed for them. We welcome presentations on innovative course design, pedagogy, projects, or activities, as well as talks on tools used to assess such courses. Presentations should include a research basis for the design or pedagogical …
Teaching Accounting Concepts Versus Applications: An Analysis Of Student Attitudes, Marshall A. Geiger
Teaching Accounting Concepts Versus Applications: An Analysis Of Student Attitudes, Marshall A. Geiger
Accounting Faculty Publications
Accounting faculty have long debated the usefulness and appropriateness of their teaching endeavor. One of the central themes in this continuing discussion is that of teaching concepts versus teaching applications of current accounting principles. In order to empirically address this issue, students' attitudes toward the conceptual aspects and toward the practical application aspects of financial accounting were assessed. This research also reports on the development and validation of an instrument that measures attitudes of students toward these aspects of financial accounting. The instrument demonstrated high reliability with both intermediate and introductory students. Intermediate students were found to distinguish between attitudes …
Ec89-723 Irrigation Scheduling Using Soil Moisture Blocks In Silty Soils, William L. Kranz, Dean E. Eisenhauer
Ec89-723 Irrigation Scheduling Using Soil Moisture Blocks In Silty Soils, William L. Kranz, Dean E. Eisenhauer
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Irrigation takes some risk out of crop production by providing a reliable source of water that allows the producer to manage soil water. Monitoring soil water is fundamental to determining how much irrigation water should be applied, and when the soil is able to store the amount of water to be applied.
This publication describes how to use soil mositure blocks to schedule irrigations in fine textured soils.

All Master's Theses
One of the purposes of this study was to show how concepts could be strengthened through the use of slides and accompanying discussion questions which were aimed at developing a child's thinking. The questions would be directed toward the development of three levels of thinking: concrete, abstract and critical.
