At the Center for Instructional Development and Research (CIDR), our staff is gaining ground on this work through the Inclusive Practices Portfolio, a collaborative forum for documenting, sharing, and supporting our individual and organizational diversity initiatives. The process of developing the center’s portfolio and the portfolio itself are mechanisms for change within the center and a model far change at our institution and beyond.

Phythophthora diseases of soybean, caused by Phytophthora sojae, are present wherever soybeans are grown in Nebraska. The pathogen survives primarily as "resting" spores in the soil or in association with infested crop debris. Symptoms associated with Phytophthora sojae, infections include seed rots, pre- and post-emergence dampin goff of seedlings and stem rot of plants at various growth stages.

Knowledge of the races present in the state and how varieties with different resistance genes have performed in a grower's field is critical to variety selection for maximum profitability.

It is an important source of protein in many parts of central Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean and among the food legumes, is the most effective in reducing blood ocholesterol levels. Glyphosate is a popular postemergence herbicide. Glyphosate-resistant soybean technology is gaining acceptance in Nebraska and in U.S. cropping systems; however, potential yield suppression from either genetic differences among varieties, the glyphosate-resistant gene/gene insertion process, or glyphosate is a concern. In 1995, the Office for Civil Rights conducted a compliance review of the Bayou Parish School System (a pseudonym) in Louisiana. The review revealed a statistically significant underrepresentation of African-American students in the Bayou Parish gifted program. This case study examined how African-American representation in a gifted program may be increased through the use of research-based interventions implemented by the Office for Civil Rights.

The relationship between staff professional development in technology that enhanced staff efficiencies were studied. A model staff development program in technology has been developed to make connections between teacher's readiness and their mastery of technology skills. Research has been obtained that indicated a direct correction between teachers' readiness in technology and their implementation of technology into the classroom. Secondary teachers must be taught using inservices, practice skills and given opportunities to share their experiences with colleagues. Administrators must take leadership in developing and supporting a quality technology training program that recognizes the staffs' individualized needs.

A middle school physical education program designed to integrate fitness skills and lifetime activities into the physical education curriculum was implemented. Ways to improve fitness, increase participation, improve skills, provide competition and cooperation, and develop knowledge and values related to physical activity were researched and implemented. A curriculum guide from first quarter through fourth quarter was provided with expected student outcomes identified. An explanation of the rationale for conducting each of the separate activities in any modified format was stated. A handbook of fitness and lifetime activities was provided as a resource for other physical education teachers.
