A fast modem can move about 15,000 bits in one second. Full-motion full-screen video would require roughly 10,000,000 bits per second, depending on compression. Technically, bandwidth is the width of a transmission line measured in Hertz.

Reframing Educational Psychology For The New Millennium, Jill Lindsey North Ph.D. Jan 2001

Reframing Educational Psychology For The New Millennium, Jill Lindsey North Ph.D.

Electronic Journal for Inclusive Education

The role of education psychology in the 21st century must be to provide a research-based pedagogical foundation upon which preservice and practicing teachers can draw to develop the habits of mind necessary to ensure all students learn. Historically, the field of educational psychology is the study of how people learn (Crowel, Podell, & Kaminsky, 1997). However, the work most associated with the field of educational psychology during the 20th century has been the development of tests and measurements to identify learners' capacities and abilities. Much of the work by educational psychologists has been focused on identifying extremes of performance in …

Life And Times Of Individuals With Mental Retardation: 40 Years Of History, Rhonda S. Black Ph.D., Beverly A. Salas

Electronic Journal for Inclusive Education

If we look to the not so distant past, we see a history of lost opportunities for employment and the chance to meaningfully contribute to society for individuals with mental retardation (Murphy & Rogan, 1995). Many issues surround why these individuals have not been more included within our society, particularly in the employment sector. Fears, questions, and concerns abound when looking at these issues. Such questions are: Why would I want to hire an individual with mental retardation? How much cost is associated with various accommodations that may be required? What unknowns are involved in hiring a person with mental …

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is an extremely contagious viral disease of cloven-hooved animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep, and deer. The disease is not commonly fatal, but causes extreme production losses in affected herds. Clinical signs of the disease include lameness, excessive salivation, reluctance to eat, abortion and blister-like erosions on the mouth and feet. Affected animals are debilitated and may not recover to their original production levels. The disease has long been recognized as one of the most economically devastating diseases of livestock.

Nf01-474 Creating A Strong Family: The Greatest Gift A Father Can Give His Children, John Defrain Jan 2001

Nf01-474 Creating A Strong Family: The Greatest Gift A Father Can Give His Children, John Defrain

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Though as a culture we may have gotten better at encouraging fathers to be good fathers, the fact remains that mothers, in general, still spend more time with children and have more responsibility for their day-to-day care. Mothers know this. Fathers know this. Many families, including my own, do not particularly like how our society is designed in this regard. The game is still rigged toward mothers being more responsible for kids, and fathers having more responsibility for earning money, though the game is changing ever so slowly. This is sad to me, because the joy of being with children …

Once introduced, varroa mites have never been eradicated from any country or region, and beekeepers must adopt an integrated pest management strategy to protect their colonies. Early detection and assessment of infestation levels are important components of a varroa management plan. Since varroa …

Family structures may vary around the world, and yet, the value of family endures.
