After years of teaching experience and by observing learners who write well, it was found that reading improves the reader's writing skills. Grammar is part and parcel of good language. Learn the language and you learn the grammar as well. For this study, students were provided with a lot of reading materials. Initially, they were taught reading comprehension. This research attempts to study the application of information skills in the practicum reports of the ln-Service English Language Immersion course participants. Application of information skills entails retrieving and processing information through library skills; reading comprehension; reading strategies such as skimming and scanning; identifying main ideas; note-taking and report or essay writing. This evaluation is made based on reports from Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia(MPM), feedback and results from questionnaires given to teachers and students, opinions of lecturers, candidates' performance reports, analysis of the Malay Literature syllabus (922) and Malay Literature examination results released by MPM. This case study sought to investigate whether the word processor had any discernible influence on the writing behaviour of one secondary school student and whether the use of the word processor had any effects on the quality of essays written. The subject wrote six argumentative essays, alternating between the conventional pen-and-paper and the word processor. Techniques of data collection included direct observations of the subject's writing behaviour and semi-structured interviews held immediately after each writing session. The purpose of this study is to examine the socioemotional behaviors of 45 five-year- old children in a child-initiated learning programme and 30 six-year-old children in a teacher-directed instruction programme based upon the Preschool and Kindergarten Behavior Scale (Merrell, 1994). The findings of the study have shown that children in the Montessori/thematic play program have significantly lower social skills but significantly higher problem behaviors, compares to children in the teacher-directed instruction programme. This study evaluates the Al04 Commercial English 1 (CE 1) course at the Ungku Omar Polytechnic (PUO). It is specifically aimed at determining the perceptions of first year commerce students and language teachers with regard to the strengths and weaknesses of the course, and their recommendations for improvement. Two sets of questionnaires were administered to a total of 70 respondents, comprising 37 Certificate in Business Studies (CBS) and 26 Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) students, and 7 language teachers. This study examined the effects of literature circles on literary learning for kindergarten students. Fourteen children were divided into groups for the purpose of reading and discussing several different fictional stories over a 6-month period. A wide variety of literature was used that reflected the units of study for each month. The children met in literature circles weekly to discuss a story with their peers. Anecdotal records and observations indicated that the students were demonstrating an increased interest in literature. This article reports on the development and implementation of reader response journals in a Reading Workshop. It is based on observations related to the effectiveness of response journals and self-evaluation in literacy instruction. Included in this article are descriptions of one teacher's previous reading practices, her desire for change, and the decisions she made regarding literacy instruction. The purpose of this journal article is to inform teachers and administrators of a better way to conduct student-led conferences. The typical format is to hold these conferences in a small, advisory setting. This paper describes an alternative format, a "homeroom" arrangement, in which one teacher is available to facilitate the conferences of 12-20 students. The staff at Harlan Community Middle School has found that a large group, everybody together-type setting works better. The gym/commons/media center location alleviates many of the problems associated with the small group setting.

A decided trend in the literature-based reading program movement in the elementary school is the discussion of ideas that have been generated during the reading process. These interactions with peers and teachers can assist children in constructing meaning from the text and in considering alternative interpretations of the text, thus extending their thinking-language abilities.
To extend discussion in a third-grade classroom, an annotated list of picture books to accompany some of the designated themes of the reading program have been developed. An example teacher-directed lesson to promote inference-making through discussion is also included.

The initiative began because of an on-going problem of students receiving low-test scores in mathematics. Students also had a difficult time retaining the mathematics concepts and skills being taught. Through discussions and surveys, a possible solution was found . A Literacy Technology Challenge Grant from the Department of Education was awarded to help teachers learn to integrate technology within the math curriculum. Discussions of literature may be viewed as a part of the social environment in which students can work together collaboratively to construct meaning. Book talk, or discussion, in a thematic unit encourages students to focus attention on the important ideas in their literature experiences, thus moving them beyond literal comprehension to inferential thinking.
