Emotional Quotient : Predicting And Teaching For Future Success Of Students, Denise A. Hale Jan 1998

Emotional Quotient : Predicting And Teaching For Future Success Of Students, Denise A. Hale

Graduate Research Papers

Emotional Quotient (EQ) involves virtually every aspect of a person's life and plays a more important role in predicting success for students than the traditional Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Emotional intelligence involves recognizing one's emotions, thus having a sense of self-awareness, managing and controlling one's emotions, motivating oneself to achieve a set goal, responding with empathy, and handling interpersonal relationships with appropriate social responses.

Many children today are deprived of natural opportunities to develop a healthy EQ. Through modeling and continued reinforcement starting in the early elementary grades, EQ can be taught. Teachers can provide literature experiences as the basis of …

The second portion of the lesson is for making words. A word is chosen from the guided reading text and becomes the target word for this portion of the …

The conclusions drawn from the literature point to a smorgasbord of programming options that can be implemented through collaboration among talented and gifted programs, school-wide efforts, and community-wide strategies.

Environments that provide encouragement and opportunities may …

Book Discussions : Guiding Students In Creating Their Own Questioning, Christine Matthew

Graduate Research Papers

Book discussions increase the understanding and personal meaning of books through the students' active participation during the reading process. Previous to book discussions the students would give a statement from the book or paraphrase the book. With the new format students are able to talk about the character's feelings, predict the happenings in the story, discuss the circumstances in the story and how the story could have been written differently.

G98-1345 Family Asset Mapping, Herbert G. Lingren Jan 1998

G98-1345 Family Asset Mapping, Herbert G. Lingren

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

All families have assets. Strengthening them is critical for a healthy family life. This NebGuide presents several opportunities for doing that.

The Family Relationship Bank Account

Successful family living requires two bank accounts: a financial account, which allows the purchase of goods and services, and a relationship account, which promotes sustainability, bonding and togetherness. When assets are many and the account balance is large, there is enough "money" to meet the relational demands that exist between couples, the family demands of raising children and the social demands of living in a community. At other times, when withdrawals are high, or …

G98-1374 Escherichia Coli: Testing For Process Control Verification: Beef Carcass Sampling, Mindy Brashears, Dianne Peters Jan 1998

G98-1374 Escherichia Coli: Testing For Process Control Verification: Beef Carcass Sampling, Mindy Brashears, Dianne Peters

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

In July 1996, the U.S.D.A. published the Final Rule on Pathogen Reduction for meat and poultry processing facilities. Its goal is to reduce the occurrence of food-borne pathogens in meat and poultry products. The rule requires carcass sampling for "generic" E. coli in meat and poultry slaughter operations. The U.S.D.A. has developed guidelines for acceptable, marginal and unacceptable amounts of E. coli to be used by the processor to determine if their process is controlling microbial hazards. If E. coli testing indicates that the process is not in control of the microbial hazards, then the processors may have to make …
