The Need For A Curriculum Director In A School District Of 2500 Students, Pamela A. Feutz
The Need For A Curriculum Director In A School District Of 2500 Students, Pamela A. Feutz
Masters Theses
Sound decisions are not made quickly, but require in-depth study by those persons involved in the decision. Decisions made by a curriculum director are furturistic, with the impact not being felt until tomorrow, or even ten or twenty years from the time the decision is made. Making realistic and sound decisions today for the future is one of the most difficult dilemmas facing the educational leaders. Some of the more critical factors concern the economic situation of society, changes in technology that influence the labor market needs, priorities of a given community, and other current events.
During the 1980-81 school …

A High School Mini-Course Program, Darrell Dean Tucker
A High School Mini-Course Program, Darrell Dean Tucker
Masters Theses
Most schools are designed for adults, for the comfort and convenience of faculty and administration. The faculty is divided by the administration into specified areas of the facility and given tasks for which they are specifically trained. This has been the traditional method of educational instruction.
One of the major responsibilities of the principal is that of educational leader in instruction. The effective principal must be constantly in search of methods of improving instruction.
An important program has been implemented at Windsor High School. This program is designed to enrich the traditional curricular offerings. The program is called the mini-course …

Culture-Based Humanities Units, Nancy Hogan
Culture-Based Humanities Units, Nancy Hogan
Masters Theses
My personal goal and purpose is to learn what work and time is involved in creating humanities activities for the classroom. I feel units such as this should be made available to teachers to provide them with ideas, materials, and the incentive to teach interrelated arts. Portions of this project could also be supplemental to World History, Literature, or Social Studies classes.
There is a need for and current trend toward combining the arts in higher education that should be circulated at a much more accelerated rate to the schools of the area. My observations in working with students indicate …

Mt. Zion School District Gifted Elementary Reading/Language Arts Program, William D. Fancher
Masters Theses
Differentiated curricula for gifted and talented students are necessities for any school district which purports to serve the educational needs of all of its student population. During the 1980-81 school year, the Mt. Zion School District, Mt. Zion, Illinois, conducted a thorough investigation and began a total revision of its district-wide gifted program. Using a systems analysis approach to problem solving, a selected committee of administrators and professional staff conducted a needs assessment in order to determine the actual value of its existing program. Concluding that the existing program did not meet the needs of its gifted/talented youth, several alternatives …

These ten areas were identified by using current students' career choices as well as by examining the records of past Cooperative Education students.

Programmed Instruction From The Instructor's Viewpoint, Michael D. Stoll
Programmed Instruction From The Instructor's Viewpoint, Michael D. Stoll
Masters Theses
The role of the instructor is, and always will be, a critical one. Until now, though, mediating a course to a self-paced, programmed learning environment frequently has neglected the fact that the instructor will have to alter teaching methods to a great extent in order to cope with the new situation. Further, without a thorough understanding of the role to be played out, the instructor could actually destroy even the best of courses.
This report studies the changeover of United States Air Force technical training course 3ABR25130 Weather Specialist from group-lock step to self-paced programmed learning. A background of both …

Designing Curriculum With Community Resources: Using A New England Town—Charlton, Ma—As A Model, Kevinetta Clare O'Brien
Masters Theses
This paper is a model to be used as a vehicle for elementary school students to become more informed about their community. The students readily observe the present growth and development of the community and they wonder about its bearings on the future.
This study is designed to be flexible enough to meet the needs of most elementary teachers pursuing such a topic. The instructor, after familiarizing himself with the background material presented …
