The development of an integrated curriculum for American History and American Literature is presented. The purpose of this project is to integrate concepts from American History with the concepts typically taught in an American Literature course. This project is intended for use at the secondary level, specifically for use at Eisenhower High School, Yakima, Washington. Many feel that it is important for students to have the ability to transfer information from one area to another. It has also been deemed important that students are capable of critical thinking. The project that has been developed will help students do both.

Integrating Mathematics, Technical Writing Skills And Authentic Assessment Into A Ninth And Tenth Grade Woodshop Curriculum, John Lawrence Mccarley

For this project an integrated woodshop curriculum containing elements of procedural writing and mathematics instruction was created. The curriculum design was based on the constructivist concept that students learn more efficiently when personal meaning is attached to the content presented. That concept was used to connect mathematics and writing to realistic applications in a woodshop setting. Support for integration of various content areas into a single curriculum is supported in the academic literature. Specific exercises to attain specific outcomes are discussed in the literature, and adaptations of those processes were incorporated in the project.

The purpose of this project was to develop a curriculum to be used during the first weeks of a secondary-level beginning Spanish class. To accomplish this purpose, a review of related literature was conducted. Additionally, related information and materials from selected sources were obtained and analyzed in order to find out what professional Spanish teachers considered to be a required part of the beginning curriculum. The curriculum was written with the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) in mind to show that Spanish teachers can and do support the EALRs.

A cun-iculum framework for a one-year eleventh grade United States History course was designed. The Framework included the development of nine themes at the unit level and one theme at the lesson level. Goals and objectives were developed at the course, unit, and lesson level. The purpose of this project was to develop a transition plan that would facilitate the movement into the post-school setting for high school students with disabilities. Research on the factors that contribute to successful transition plans was examined. A four year transition plan for students with special needs was created that would detail specific requirements for each of the grades 9-12. These requirements would encompass vocational education/training and instruction, community experiences, life skills, functional vocational evaluation and assessment, interagency collaboration, parent involvement, and post-school education. The attainment of these requirements would be demonstrated by a cumulative portfolio.

A model, volunteer, student service-learning program was developed for Holy Savior High School, Tienchung, Taiwan. The program was designed to be implemented during the everyday life of the school and curriculum, as well as for after school hours in the community. Five (5) specific student service-learning activities and projects were developed and designed for implementation: 1) Environmental Beautification. 2) Service to the Poor. 3) Service to Senior Citizens. 4) Service to Delinquent Youths. 5) Christmas Garden Fair. Development of the model program was influenced by a review of current literature and student service-learning information obtained from selected schools.

New innovations in scheduling at the secondary level in many high schools have resulted in "block scheduling", whereby, students meet in classes for a longer time period than the norm (50-55 minutes). In the area of performing arts, this expanded schedule presents new opportunities for the inclusion of musicianship skills. This study will provide guidelines and resources for strengthening the musicianship of students currently participating in block scheduling within their performance classes. The exercises and lessons included will reflect the guidelines of the National Standards for the Arts.

The Effect Of An Intensive Study Skills Approach On Grade Point Average Of Secondary Learning Disabled Students, Jeanne Lancaster Vaughan

This study compared an intensive study skills approach with remedial instruction in basic skills for their effects on grade point average of secondary learning disabled students. The experimental group consisted of 12 students, as did the control group. Grade point was tabulated at the onset and conclusion of the study. The statistical analysis consisted of a t-test which showed no significance at the .05 level. The null hypothesis was retained. Discussion follows.
