Understanding And Application Of Learning College Concepts Among Community College Support Staff Employees, Laura E. Weidner
Understanding And Application Of Learning College Concepts Among Community College Support Staff Employees, Laura E. Weidner
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Research on the Learning College indicates that everyone in the college must support learning. There have not been previous studies that centered on whether or not support staff, a major constituency group in community colleges, participates in supporting learning. This adapted phenomenological study examined staff in a Learning College to determine their understanding and application of the Learning College concept. Three research questions addressed how these employees understand the concept, perceive their roles, and apply Learning College principles. The study was conducted in a theoretical framework combining Learning College, change, and organizational culture theories. Data were collected from a purposive …
Student Satisfaction With Online Learning Effectiveness At A Connecticut Community College, Alina R. Payne
Student Satisfaction With Online Learning Effectiveness At A Connecticut Community College, Alina R. Payne
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In recent years, institutions of higher education have dramatically increased the number of online courses and degree programs offered to students, and yet it remains unclear what factors determine student satisfaction with online course and instructor effectiveness. Accordingly, the purpose of this exploratory correlation study was to examine how factors related to courses and instructors contributed to student perceptions of course quality (CQ) and instructor effectiveness (IE). Six stepwise regression procedures assessed the effects of specific course and instructor characteristics on perceptions of CQ and IE across one year of course evaluation data collected in a northeastern 2-year college. Results …
Intimate Partner Violence Among Male And Female U.S. Community College Students, Shakiera Benson
Intimate Partner Violence Among Male And Female U.S. Community College Students, Shakiera Benson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Intimate partner violence affects a significant portion of college-aged individuals, but researchers know little about how the intersection of age, race, class, and gender influence intimate partner violence among community college students in the United States. In this quantitative correlational study, I examined the relationship between intimate partner violence and gender, race, age, class, marital status, and past abuse among community college students using the intersectionality theory. I used the Abusive Behavior Inventory and a demographic survey to collect data via a convenience sample of the target population of men (n = 220) and women (n = 330) attending a …
An Ermerging Model For A New System Of Education In New York State, David Elliot
An Ermerging Model For A New System Of Education In New York State, David Elliot
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This document has been written to serve two distinct but related
purposes. First, it is an attempt to describe a set of educational experiences which will be developed by a consortium of county-wide agencies to meet the existing as well as the emerging needs of learners in Rockland County, New York. To this end, a theoretical operational construct is explicated and the implementation strategies and tactics which are felt to insure a high degree of success for the program relative to realities extant in Rockland County are outlined. Second, an extended rationale reflecting the status of the American society, the …

An Inquiry Into The Piagetian Tradition In America As A Basis For A Philosophy Of Education At The Communityy College Level: A Quasi-Experimental Approach, Clinton J. Humbolt
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The purpose of this study was to investigate the utility of a structural-developmental approach as a basis for a philosophy of education for the public community college of the Midwestern United States. The structural developmental approach was explored within the broader cognitive studies of the Piagetian tradition in America. The method of research employed was a combination of analysis of relevant literature and empirical investigation at a community college. This combination was explored in order to determine the possible abstraction of a structural-developmental pattern as a potential base for theory building. A research instrument was used to assess the …
Self-Actualization And Persistence In Selected Vocational Curricula For First-Time Entering Students At A Community College, Charles J. Mast
Self-Actualization And Persistence In Selected Vocational Curricula For First-Time Entering Students At A Community College, Charles J. Mast
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Investigated personality factors associated with self-actualization among first time entering students at a predominately trade-technical community college. The Ss were 529 students enrolled in liberal arts and trade-technical programs. The Ss were administered the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI) and the results formed the basis of two analyses.
I. A 2x2x2 (eight cells) factorial analysis included length of attendance, vocational choice, and age, applied to each of the 12 POI scales. It was found that: (1) POI measures did not differentiate between persisters and drop-outs over a one semester period; (2) that liberal arts students received better POI scores than did …
