These products reassure you that they are safe and reliable, often bearing labels such as "Mom Tested" or "Pediatrician Approved." The person shown is usually a smiling, physically fit Caucasian woman clad in a stylish outfit playing with her clean, happy children in a sunny and well-organized home. She is the Mythic Mom: buy these products and you too may attain her state of charming, if sometimes unruly, bliss.

Taking In: Photography 2009, Aib Students

Taking In

Taking In showcases a selection of work from students attending the Art Institute of Boston Work was collected by members of this class for presentation before a jury of distinguished artists from outside of the school. The images selected by the jury were then sequenced for the book, which is designed to be distributed throughout the artistic community. In addition, the work is displayed in a gallery exhibition and on our website. In your hands is the result of the hard work and dedication of the members of this class.

Case Study: Student Art As Construction Beautification, Barbara Merolli

The article presents a case study of using student art as decoration at the College of the Holy Cross. The College's library was undergoing some construction and as a result the Atrium, one of the most aesthetically pleasing features of the library, was boarded up. Cristi Rinklin, a visual arts assistant professor, coordinated a final project for her students of a course on the principles of color theory to create artwork through scientific inspiration which was then turned to wallpaper.

Despite a current climate that often undervalues the arts in education, arts-centered schools and school reform continue to proliferate. This study describes, interprets and evaluates arts-centered school reform which is defined within this study as the comprehensive and intentional restructuring and re-culturing of schools using the theories and practices of the arts and arts-learning as the primary basis for educational change decisions to uncover its aims, practices and significance.

Muffin was a newsletter produced in the early aughts by RISD’s Queer Student Union as a student guide to queer culture. The 2008 issue features creative writing, a book review of "The Gay Girl's Guide to Dating, Sex, and Romance," an "Ask Madame Muffin" column, a gay celebrity gossip column, screenshots of a thread on homosexuality from Yahoo! Answers, an article on sexual morality and autonomy, and a page of queer resources.

Taking In is the culmination of a semester's worth of work done by a group of thirteen students who set out to publish a collection of the best of AIB's student work. This project addresses previously unexplored areas of Victor D'Amico's career as Director of the Education Department at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) from 1937-69, during which time he developed and implemented his philosophy on creative teaching that developed creativity, innovation and appreciation for modern art through a focus on individual aesthetic experience. Beginning with MoMA's early role and mission and the founding of the Education Project, the education programs as a laboratory for experimental art education are studied, specifically the Museum's television series Through the Enchanted Gate and the Children's Art Carnival as exemplars of D'Amico's experimental programming. Teaching Washington State History Through The Arts: A Curricular Guide, Rebekah Norgard

All Graduate Projects

Students benefit both academically and nonacademically when a core subject is taught through the arts. The arts allow students to develop cognitively, extend their research skills, define their ability to problem solve, and strengthen their self-image. Personal connections and student attentiveness is increased when classes incorporate the study of the arts. The purpose of this project was to encourage the integration of arts into core subjects and provide a framework and examples of effective arts content infusion as an instructional strategy for use by Washington State History teachers.

The purpose of this research was to gain information about Charles-Auguste de Beriot (1802-1870) and his contributions to the violin. The specific problems of the study were as follows: 1.) to identify what influenced the compositions of Charles-Auguste de Beriot; 2.) to outline important developments in his writing that contributed to violin technique and Romanticism; and 3.) to analyze Concerto IX in A minor for Violin, Op. 104 in terms of melody, harmony, tonality, texture, and form. The intention of this research is to investigate Beriot’s compositions for violin and examines the Romantic aspects that appear in his Concerto IX. …

This study examines the use of aesthetics in the art education curriculum as a strategy for building oral language skills and critical thinking skills. In this study reproduced artworks were used to stimulate discussion; students learned to scan paintings using a technique called aesthetic scanning during which they learn how to look at a painting orally through guided questioning by the classroom teacher. It was concluded that providing oral language opportunities through the implementation of the aesthetic scanning program was an effective way to promote oral language skills and critical thinking skills in the kindergarten classroom. Although slightly informal, this booklet contains some very useful advice, some beautifully executed sample plates, and a moving tribute to the author's teacher, John Howard Benson, author of the full-length classic, "The Elements of Lettering" (1950).
