After the experiments of Faraday, Maxwell, Hertz and such men as these, electricity and magnetism became a vital part of human life and endeavor. Within the last twenty-five years the advances in electricity have been very rapid. The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas
The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas
Education Student Dissertations
While reading the "Principles of Educational Sociology" by Walter Robinson Smith, the writer was deeply impressed by the statement that "Next to the family group and home life, the play group and play life exert the most vital influence upon the unfolding personality of the child." The writer wondered if it was the absence of play life, as American born children of fair social background experience it, that would in some measure explain the dullness of the Italian-American child of Sicilian and Neapolitan origin, who, as the writer knew him, was so lovable, so anxious and eager to please and …

Experimental And Observational Geometry, Albert D. Field
Experimental And Observational Geometry, Albert D. Field
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Geometry has the distinction of being one of the oldest subjects given in the high-school.
Its subject-matter was formulated and organized by the Greeks into a fine system of thought before the time of Christ. Since leaving the hands of the Greeks, geometry has received only a few minor changes, and these largely in recent years.
Heretofore, the study of geometry has been made almost entirely dependent upon memory and reasoning. Geometricians have been slow in adopting the laboratory and observational methods.
This thesis has been written to encourage the student in his work of observing geometrical forms, and in …

We are on the threshold of a new technique in education for adults as well as for little children. The chief feature of the new technique, as opposed to the old and now conventional type, is that it is based upon participation while the old depends chiefly upon rationalization.
