A Comparison Of The Critical Thinking Dispositions Of Arts And Non-Arts Undergraduates, Nancy Ann Lampert

This study investigates the variance in critical thinking dispositions between arts and non-arts undergraduates using quantitative data from the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI), a survey instrument. Data were collected from a sample of 141 undergraduates at a large, urban, public university on the east coast. The population consisted of four groups: freshmen non-arts students, freshmen arts students, junior and senior non-arts students, and junior and senior arts students.;of the four groups which were compared, the junior and senior arts subjects showed the greatest mean total score on the CCTDI. The Development Of Self-Efficacy In The Teaching Of Reading, Peggy B. Mcmaster

Licensed primary teachers (N = 93) in nine schools completed surveys of their self-efficacy beliefs, level of implementation, and the value they placed on the strategies before and after participating in four levels of inservice training in the Tucker Signing Strategies for Reading. The independent variable was the structure of the training teachers received, and the dependent variables were teacher sense of efficacy in general, teacher sense of efficacy for reading, implementation of the reading strategies, and the value of the reading strategies taught. An issue of growing importance in the field of education is the retention of novice teachers. Current statistics indicate that new teachers are leaving the field at an alarming rate, providing much cause for concern (Billingsley, 2004; Graziano, 2005; Ingersoll & Smith, 2003).
