A Survey Of Teachers' Perceptions Of Homogeneous, Heterogeneous, And Multiage Grouping And The Achievement Results Of Their Students, Tracy G. Achord
Electronic Dissertations and Theses
Many schools in the state of Louisiana are being rated as either effective or at-risk. The public looks down on those schools that are at-risk and hold a corrective action status. If the schools in corrective action do not improve over a three-year period, they will be closed forever. Now faced with possibility of losing their jobs, teachers need to discover the most effective techniques and strategies of teaching students more than ever before. These have been studies, which indicate that grouping students for instruction id productive and effective. But which grouping method is best? There are many different grouping …

Assessing A Media Discernment Course For Freshmen At Illiana Christian High School: A Case Study, William Boerman-Cornell
Assessing A Media Discernment Course For Freshmen At Illiana Christian High School: A Case Study, William Boerman-Cornell
Master of Education Program Theses
This case study examines the effectiveness of a team-taught mass-media freshman level course on discernment of media messages, and decision-making. By means of pre- and post- course surveys of students and faculty, this study examines students' decisions about consuming mass media and how after taking the course, their media selection process became more complex, deliberate, and organized. It also examines faculty response to the course in terms of how it appears to affect the students and how it affects faculty teaching and learning.

Midwife And Mother: Maternal Metaphors In The Composition Classroom, Cynthia Britt
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study examines the maternal metaphors of midwife and mother used to describe instructors and teaching practices in the composition classroom. In the introduction the author describes her interest in the topic based on her own experiences as a mother and as a beginning composition instructor. Section one explores the development of the metaphors to describe composition teachers related to …
A Solution To Einstein’S Field Equations For A Tachyonic Gas: Possible Astrophysical Applications, Kris H. Green, W. John Cocke
A Solution To Einstein’S Field Equations For A Tachyonic Gas: Possible Astrophysical Applications, Kris H. Green, W. John Cocke
Mathematical and Computing Sciences Faculty/Staff Publications
In this paper we show that a change in the signs of some of the metric components of the solution of the field equations for the classical cosmic string results in a solution which we interpret as a time-dependent wall composed of tachyons. We show that the walls have the property of focusing the paths of particles which pass through them. As an illustration of this focusing, we demonstrate the results of a simple simulation of the interaction between one such tachyon wall and a rotating disk of point masses. This interaction leads to the temporary formation of spiral structures. …
Federal Tenure Denial Litigation Involving Private Colleges And Universities, Robert P. Hamill
Federal Tenure Denial Litigation Involving Private Colleges And Universities, Robert P. Hamill
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since 1972, the volume of federal litigation involving faculty and their institutions has escalated. Tenure denial litigation, too, has increased. Prior to 1972, there were no published federal tenure denial decisions involving private colleges and universities. Since 1972, the number of published tenure denial decisions in the private institutional setting has increased steadily. Higher education administrators need to understand the risks that are involved in the tenure review process. These risks include the possibility of a protracted and costly lawsuit. Such a lawsuit could result in having key administrators spend enormous amounts of time preparing for trial and testifying in …
The Impact Of Professional Development Activities On Selected Indiana High Schools, Lori Ann Hoevener
The Impact Of Professional Development Activities On Selected Indiana High Schools, Lori Ann Hoevener
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A dearth of literature exists on the topic of professional development for public school teachers, according to Guskey ( 1997). This study attempted to contribute to the data base through both qualitative and quantitative analyses. The following two research questions were explored: 1) What are teacher perceptions regarding changes in professional development in the last five years? 2) Is there a relationship between personal satisfaction and the quality/availability, funding, and presence of outside consultants within professional development activities for teachers? Teachers at six Indiana public schools were surveyed, and voluntary interview participants were solicited. Thematic analysis occurred of twelve one-on-one …
