The Journey Of Education: Characteristics Of Shoshone-Bannock High School And Community Members On The Fort Hall Indian Reservation, Ed Galindo
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This dissertation examined personal, cultural, school, and family factors that contribute to the decision of Native American students to remain in school until graduation or to drop out. One hundred eighty-one participants who had either graduated or dropped out of school completed a 140-item questionnaire. Participants lived on the Shoshone-Bannock Indian Reservation located at Fort Hall, Idaho.
Factors examined in the survey instrument included substance abuse by self or family members, peer pressure, trouble with the law, self-esteem, teen pregnancy, family structure, socioeconomic status, parents education, academic achievement, teacher attitudes and expectations, school attendance, tribal self-identity and pride, and bilingualism. …
How Utah Parents Of Utah School Children Judge School Effectiveness, Philip L. Rodgers
How Utah Parents Of Utah School Children Judge School Effectiveness, Philip L. Rodgers
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
There is a perceived crisis concerning public education in the United States. This has led to an increase in the use of standardized tests for the purpose of measuring school effectiveness. However, the use of standardized tests for this purpose is problematic. Among these problems is the concern that standardized tests may not measure what parents believe are the most important attributes of an effective school. Unfortunately, there is little in the way of empirical evidence regarding parent beliefs in this area.
The purpose of this research was to answer the following four questions.
1. What do parents of school-aged …

The type and amount of concentrate included in beef cattle diets can greatly influence production and profitability. Small grains are typically fed in these rations, but the inclusion of by-product feeds, such as wheat middlings (WM), in growing and finishing diets have recently been studied (Dalke et al., 1997; Blasi et al., 1998).

What Hrd Curriculum Is Being Taught Within Hr Programs In U.S. Business Schools, Susan R. Madsen, Anita L. Musto, Tyler S. Hall
Susan R. Madsen
The number of academic human resource development (HRD) programs has substantially increased over the past 15 years (Kuchinke, 2001). This growth has been attributed to the increased demands for HRD-related employee skills, expertise, and performance in today’s dynamic workplace and economic environment. Kuchinke found that the large majority of HRD programs are located in colleges and schools of education. However, as we strive to describe and measure the influence and growth of HRD in academic settings, it is important to consider the HRD curriculum taught within other schools, departments, degrees, programs, and specializations. One such area of HRD influence and …

The Development Of A Human Resource Curriculum For Institutions Experiencing Rapid Growth, Susan R. Madsen, Anita L. Musto, Tyler S. Hall
The Development Of A Human Resource Curriculum For Institutions Experiencing Rapid Growth, Susan R. Madsen, Anita L. Musto, Tyler S. Hall
Susan R. Madsen
A key challenge with the growth and expansion of institutions of higher education is in the development of degree programs and emphases. It is imperative that new programs and emphases be designed to reflect current research findings and job market needs and competencies. Curricula at some institutions have been formed through the opinions of local experts instead of through valid and rigorous research projects. In 2002 Utah Valley State College (UVSC) ranked eighth in the nation for student growth and institutional expansion when compared with other four-year public institutions (Stewart, 2002). Although this is exciting and exhilarating in many ways, …

Altered Vista is an instructional system that supports a form of ‘contextual’ collaborative learning. Its design incorporates an information filtering technique, called collaborative information filtering, which, through computational and statistical means, leverages the work of individuals to benefit a group of users. Altered Vista is designed to provide, upon request, personalized recommendations of Web sites. It can also provide recommendations of like-minded people, thus setting the stage for future collaboration and communication. An empirical study involving in-service and pre-service teachers was conducted using Altered Vista and presents results from an empirical study. The study examined the feasibility and utility of …

No Principal Left Behind: Nclb Implications For Paraprofessionals, Marilyn Likins Ph.D.
Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling Faculty Publications
More than 525,000 paraprofessionals serve students in schools across the United States today. Their various job titles—teacher’s aide or assistant, speech therapy assistant, education technician, instructional assistant, intervener, classroom reduction assistant, direct care provider, transition trainer or job coach, or home visitor—reflect the variety of roles and responsibilities paraprofessionals assume in today’s schools and in other compensatory programs provided by local education agencies. They also reflect how much the role of paraprofessionals in the classroom has changed.
Paraeducators who have been in their profession longer than five years are well aware of how much their duties have changed—no longer are …
