Balancing Act: Navigating Employee Autonomy And Neglect, Lekshmy Sankar
Balancing Act: Navigating Employee Autonomy And Neglect, Lekshmy Sankar
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The fine line between granting employee autonomy and inadvertently falling into patterns of neglect presents a complex challenge within organizational leadership. This study explores the question: What do leaders perceive as effective strategies for providing autonomy to remote employees without being perceived as neglecting them? Employee autonomy empowers employees to make decisions, while leader neglect towards subordinates (LNS) is defined through this research as a gradual decrease in a leader's interest or effort in sustaining positive relationships with employees. Navigating this balance is crucial to maintaining employee engagement.
This qualitative study uncovered nuanced perceptions on this issue using a grounded …

The Power Behind Postsecondary Attainment Goals: A Critical Policy Discourse Analysis, Casey Mccoy-Simmons
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In this study, I examined neoliberal discourses upheld by policy actors engaged in the college completion agenda that perpetuated power structures maintaining white supremacy by relying on the success of racially marginalized communities to meet postsecondary attainment goals. With philanthropic foundations playing an increased role in advancing an advocacy-focused agenda to increase postsecondary attainment across states, there was also a need to better understand the relationship between state policy actors and foundations. As a national champion of postsecondary attainment goals, I identified the Lumina Foundation as a key policy actor in leveraging its advocacy-focused agenda to influence state policy actors …

A Gift Not Given: An Examination Of Disproportionality For Black Students And Gifted Education Through The Lens Of Representation And Improvement, Casey Weiss
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Giftedness is a particular trait giving designation to a specific group of people in a school population. While identification methods vary from state to state, the status of being gifted is granted to some students, creating a dichotomy of those who receive gifted services and subsequent privileges and those who remain left out. Historically, Black students and other marginalized populations have had less participation in gifted programs. The literature highlights several factors connected to inequity in giftedness including lack of a cohesive definition of the term (or even if the concept of giftedness is real or socially constructed), nomination and …

Phenomenological Study Of The Impact Of Stress And Burnout After Covid-19 On Educators: Supporting Teachers In Resiliency And Facilitating Adversarial Growth Post-Pandemic., Rebecca Hicks-Hawkins
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
COVID-19 has not only caused anxiety and fears among teachers for their own health and that of their families; they are also facing increased responsibility. Planning periods had been replaced with coverage periods, where teachers must teach other classes when their colleagues are out—often due to illness—because the supply of substitute teachers cannot meet the demand (Barton & Dickason, 2022). Teaching is a demanding profession, and there will always be stress associated with a job where so many external factors come into play (Hansen, 2013). However, in the face of adversity some teachers were thriving. They are showing up and …

Although the academic profession has developed through research, master’s programs, and courses designed to expand the field of academic advising, researchers still question whether full-time academic advising is a profession. Questions regarding the legitimacy of the work of academic advisors have led to miscommunication between upper administrators within the university. Universities have experienced a trend of …
