Autobiography Of Proteins In Nutrients, Marguerite Jones
Autobiography Of Proteins In Nutrients, Marguerite Jones
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in 1933, surveys the chemical classification of proteins and their role in human nutrition, with the stated aim of preparing home economics students to understand protein's function in the diet. Jones organizes proteins into three major classes: simple proteins, including albumins, globulins, glutelins, protamins, and histones; conjugated proteins, including nucleo-proteins, glyco-proteins, phospho-proteins, and hemoglobins; and derived proteins, including albumoses, peptones, and peptids, describing the chemical composition, solubility properties, and sources of each.
The thesis then examines amino acids as the end products of protein digestion, identifying those essential for growth and maintenance, including tryptophane, …

The Reign Of Terror Was A Natural Consequence Of Preceding Incidents, Octave Peter Smith
The Reign Of Terror Was A Natural Consequence Of Preceding Incidents, Octave Peter Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree in 1932, examines the relative importance of heredity and environment in shaping human development across the life course. Drawing on educational psychology literature by Starch, Thorndike, Averial, James, Horne, and Dom Thomas Verner Moore, the thesis surveys competing theoretical positions on whether inherited traits or external conditions constitute the greater force in determining individual character, intelligence, and social behavior. The central argument of the thesis holds that heredity and environment are mutually dependent and cannot be meaningfully separated: instincts provide the …
Minimum Essentials In Spelling, Punctuation, Capitalization And English Grammar : Being A Study To Determine What Spelling, Punctuation, Capitalization And Grammar Should Be Studied In The Junior High School And To Determine What Items Of Grammar Should Be Stressed., John Riley Beard
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There is considerable interest in minimum essentials in English. This interest is manifested in educational periodicals, pamphlets and monographs that have given the results of surveys that have been made in order to find out what the minimum essentials should be. Not only periodicals treat of the subject, but books also are being written which are devoted entirely or in part to the minimum essentials. Practice pads and other devices are other evidences of an effort to aid those who are trying to teach the essentials. The criticism of the colleges and the technical training schools is that their entering …
The Teaching Of Negro History In The Elementary School, David Joseph Jackson
The Teaching Of Negro History In The Elementary School, David Joseph Jackson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
One of the reasons why there is such a great lack of cooperation within the race is ignorance of race ability. Students in high-school and college often times have but a vague and obscure concept of the Negro race, educationally, industrially, economically, and when in time these students seek to make and adjustment they find themselves handicapped . For this reason in order that, that love of race, that race consciousness, that makes not only for loyal race brothers, but rather which makes for true loyal law abiding citizens of America, Negro History, should find a place in the curriculum …
The Prime Aim Of Teaching Latin Should Be For Its Cultural Value Rather Than The Correlative Or Disciplinary Values, Xavier University Of Louisiana
The Prime Aim Of Teaching Latin Should Be For Its Cultural Value Rather Than The Correlative Or Disciplinary Values, Xavier University Of Louisiana
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In choosing subjects of this nature there are certain causes or reasons which influence such a choice. In this case it is not my purpose to offer a defense for the study of Latin as an educational subject, nor is it my purpose to propose a special method of presenting Latin as to make it a more attractive part of the curriculum. I am influenced principally by the fact that among educators and Latin teachers themselves there is a widespread divergence of opinion as to what ought to be aims of teaching Latin.
Relative Importance Of Heredity And Environment, Harriet Sanders
Relative Importance Of Heredity And Environment, Harriet Sanders
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The most interesting and educational type of discussion today is, I think, that on Environment and Heredity, in which many questions arise such as, "Which has the greatest force in man's life, Hereditary or Environment?" "Does his training or environment influence his attainment?" or, "What is the relative importance of nature and nurture?"

The Household Budget, Inez Pepin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics in 1931, examines the household budget as a system for managing family income during a period of national economic crisis. Pepin opens by surveying contemporary economic theories offered to explain the ongoing depression, including overproduction, unequal distribution, and capitalization theories, before turning to the household as a unit affected by broader economic conditions.
The thesis defines the budget as one stage within a larger financial organization process encompassing planning, record-keeping, and periodic review, and argues that no fixed formula for …
