The Development Of A Reading Program In An Iowa High School, James E. Albrecht

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The interest Americans have expressed in the art of reading perhaps stems back to their original formulation of the goals of education, when reading took its place as the first of the "3 R's." Authorities today in the field of education are still agreed that reading should be considered as basic to all forms of education. The Iowa State Course of Study in English suggests that, "Reading is the chief means of gaining an education and of continuing the education after formal schooling has ended."1

Some Photographic Materials And Techniques For High School Biology Teachers, Robert L. Calentine

Biology teachers in the smaller high schools are often confronted with the problem of securing sufficient classroom teaching material: charts, specimens, and reference books. A Study Of Office Occupations In Austin, Minnesota, Calmer Alton Jensen Jan 1956

A Study Of Office Occupations In Austin, Minnesota, Calmer Alton Jensen

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The study of office occupations is predicated on the belief that vocational courses and curriculum offered in modern high schools should be organized with due consideration for the needs of the workers and employers in the area in which the school is located. The researcher recognizes the fact that educational theorists differ in their philosophies relative to the value of evaluating the educational program of a school through the medium of a community study. In this study, however, the researcher has followed the philosophy of vocational education theorists who believe that a vocational program of studies should be based upon …

Through them, growing numbers of the school-age population receive approximately one-third of their daily food requirement. They also may learn about the nutritional values of the foods to which they are accustomed and the various ways these can be prepared and served. As the number of offerings in the curriculum must be limited, the curriculum offerings should be constantly reappraised. This study is intended to serve as an evaluative aid in the consideration of the place of the one-year shorthand program in …
