Interpreting The Parameters Of A Multidimensional Rasch Model, W Wang, M Wilson, Ray Adams
Interpreting The Parameters Of A Multidimensional Rasch Model, W Wang, M Wilson, Ray Adams
Prof Ray Adams
This chapter introduces the multidimensional random coefficient multinomial logit model (MRCML) which can be applied to multidimensional polytomous test items. Two examples of real data analyses are followed to demonstrates the applications of the MRCML. A detailed discussion is made of interpretation of item parameters, in comparision to those derived from their corresponding unidimensional Rasch measurement models. Finally, it provides some guidelines for constructing scoring matrices and the corresponding models to aid parameter interpretation.

Understanding Children's Perspectives: Sixth Graders Talk About Their Art, Christine Mulcahey
Understanding Children's Perspectives: Sixth Graders Talk About Their Art, Christine Mulcahey
Christine Mulcahey
Abstract This exploratory study investigates children's perspectives on artistic representation. Unstructured weekly interviews with a group of sixth graders for ten weeks allowed for a negotiated and shared understanding of children's views. The talk of the children, in relation to a collection of each child's drawings, constitute the primary data for the study. Analysis of interview data suggests three primary themes: categories for understanding, a children's world, and children's talk about art. The children's categories for thinking about ideas and events appear to be flexible and tentative, and to allow for variation and subdivisions. The children's conversations suggest a distinct …

The Science Knowledge, Conceptions Of The Nature Of Science, Attitudes About Teaching Science, And Science Instructional Strategies Of Bilingual And English-Only Elementary Teachers, Adelina Alegria
Adelina Alegria
The goal of this study was to explore bilingual and English-only elementary teachers' science knowledge, their conceptions of the nature of science, their attitudes about teaching science, and their self-reported science instructional skills. In this study, a bilingual teacher was defined as a teacher who provides instruction in Spanish and English in core academic subjects and has completed and/or is completing a bilingual certification program. An English-only teacher was defined as a monolingual teacher that only speaks and instructs in English. The principal questions guiding this dissertation investigation were the following: How do bilingual elementary teachers differ from English-only elementary …
The Resource Implications Of Vet In Schools, Gerald Burke, Phil Mckenzie, Chandra Shah
The Resource Implications Of Vet In Schools, Gerald Burke, Phil Mckenzie, Chandra Shah
Dr Phillip McKenzie
This article is concerned with an aspect of the development of vocational education and training (VET) programs in schools, the likely resource implications of extending VET in schools. How much do VET programs cost, and how are those costs shared among the key parties involved, namely school systems, individual schools, VET providers, employers, and students? The level and distribution of costs are important, in terms of budgets for each party, but also for what they imply about the nature of VET programs in schools and students' access to them.

Mapping Educational Research And Its Impact On Australian Schools, A Holbrook, John Ainley, S Bourke, J Owen, P Mckenzie, S Misson, T Johnson
Dr John Ainley
This report provides an analysis of educational research and its impact on Australian schools. It has a particular focus on research done by academic staff and postgraduate students in university faculties of education, since around 90 percent of the resources involved in Australian educational research are located in those faculties. Within the total research endeavour the report concentrates on research concerned with Australian schools and schooling. The report developed an analytical framework drawn from the literature concerned with knowledge utilisation. The report has provided the most comprehensive mapping yet undertaken of the educational research that was underway in Australia in …

A program designed to encourage university faculty and teaching assistants (TAs) to use cooperative learning in undergraduate classrooms was evaluated through the perspectives of faculty, TAs and students. The program was part of an initiative called DiverSCity, and the evaluation focused on the initial climate and culture of the college and responses to a series of faculty seminars conducted to introduce faculty to collaborative instruction and to encourage its use for the creation of diversity. Three surveys were administered in the spring semester 1998 to a sample of faculty, the population of TAs, and the senior student cohort. The response …

Academic Dependency In The Social Sciences: Reflections On India And Malaysia, Syed Farid Alatas
Academic Dependency In The Social Sciences: Reflections On India And Malaysia, Syed Farid Alatas
farid alatas
Always. Various types of meta-analyses exist, and concerns range from the epistemological to the empirical. Metatheory, or the reflexive study of the social sciences, involves the study of the social, cultural and historical contexts of theories and theorists, and their philosophical roots. The particular variety of meta theory that I focus on in this essay is the political economy of the social sciences, with reference to the cases of India and Malaysia.

Relationships And Universal Energy Laws, Carroy U. Ferguson
Relationships And Universal Energy Laws, Carroy U. Ferguson
Carroy U "Cuf" Ferguson, Ph.D.
Relationships are our most intense forms of "mirrors" in the world. They show us in direct and indirect ways how we are using our personal energy systems in what I call our three life spaces. They show us how we consciously and unconsciously employ what some authors have called Universal Energy Laws (see attached descriptions of these laws) to co-create the quality of our relationships. Whether or not we "attract" and/or deal with relationships in conscious or subconscious ways, what I call the "mirror effect" is reflected in our three life spaces—personal life space, societal life space, and global life …
