Development And Validation Of An Instructional Inservice Program For Higher Education Science Consultants Involved In Florida’S Summer Inservice Institute Program, Susan Elizabeth Chattan Dabb

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The State of Florida requires that all sixty-seven counties within the state participate in a Summer Inservice Institute Program (SIIP) that provides content area instruction to elementary and secondary public school teachers. Critical need areas such as mathematics and science take priority in the consideration for funding and programming in all counties. The state requires that the emphasis in these summer training sessions be placed on college-level content instruction. Workshops presented solely on methods are considered not appropriate.

The rationale for funding the required program is that public school personnel, unlike their postsecondary level liberal arts counterparts, lack content-area training …

Family Strengths Among Black Families In Alaska: A Case Study, Washington W. Brown Jr. Feb 1991

Family Strengths Among Black Families In Alaska: A Case Study, Washington W. Brown Jr.

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The idea of a strong family is a very subjective concept. A strength, according to one set of criteria, could easily be interpreted as a weakness according to another set of criteria--and vice-versa. Most scholars of the family would agree that a strong bond of affection between family members is usually an asset. But if this affection is manifested in extremely dependent and stifling relationships among family members, such a bond would generally be characterized as a "pathological" liability.

The family has traditionally provided the foundation for society, and, though in contemporary America some of its functions have been absorbed …

Twenty-First Century Military Education: A Case Study With Analyses And Projections Of Current And Anticipated Programs, Lillian H. Stewart

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

Changes in funding and emphases for military education programs are heavily influenced by the national and international politics climate. Restricted funding for Army Continuing Education System (ACES) programs and downsizing for the Army mandate close scrutiny of current and anticipated programs to determine optimum benefits to the Army for dollars spent. The research project employed the case study method to examine five current program area of emphases for trends in cost and participation, and for anticipated future need for each program. Past records of participation and funding were graphed and extrapolated to project trends. Four new or projected initiatives were …
