An Evaluation Of Readmissions Of Students Dismissed For Scholastic Deficiencies, Luella Bauer
An Evaluation Of Readmissions Of Students Dismissed For Scholastic Deficiencies, Luella Bauer
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
University administrators are perpetually faced with decisions regarding the readmission of students dismissed for academic failure. The complexity of the problem has discouraged formal research in the area. Initial identification difficulty, divergent course work requirement variances of different colleges, personality variables and differences of ability add to the complexity of the problem.

Enrichment And Reorganization Of The Kellogg School Library, Kenneth Adkins
Enrichment And Reorganization Of The Kellogg School Library, Kenneth Adkins
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
For several decades it had been recognized that the American school had been changing from a classical school with a select student body and a narrow curriculum, into a large public school with varying abilities, interests and offerings. It had been recognized that the need for children's literature had become more acute than ever before. Kellogg School is structuring and carrying out a long-range plan for a better education for boys and girls, had established a philosophy of teaching and learning and had set out general and specific goals. In order that the teaching and learning be congenial with the …

Factors Related To Superior Achievement In Grade Six, Roberta Delores Brooks
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Individual differences and group differences in scholastic performance are increasingly important areas of concern in classroom teaching, school guidance, psychological counseling, as well as in parent-student educational and vocational planning. With the current surge of technical and professional specialization there is a need for increased understanding of how individuals and groups differ in academic performance and the factors closely related to such differences.

American College Test Scores As Predictors Of College Success, Clinton W. Chapman Ii
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The prediction of academic success in institutions of higher learning is an important problem for those persons concerned with admission requirements and placement programs. Predictions of academic success also facilitate readmission procedures and are useful to counselors working with college or prospective college students.
At Marshall University, the American College Test (ACT) has been used as a measure of academic success. The test was developed to make procedures of admissions, guidance, placement and scholarship appointments more efficient. The American College Test battery consists of four tests: English Usage Test, Mathematics Usage Test, Social Studies Reading Test, and Natural Sciences Reading …

Today there are seventeen and a half million people age 65 or over in the United States. This is nearly one-tenth of our population, and the number is estimated to be increasing by one thousand daily. There are already twenty-five million people age 60 or over, six million age 75 and over, and more than ten thousand over the age of 100. With increased study and research on various factors in the aging process and how they affect the health of elderly people, these figures may go even higher.

Some California Psychological Inventory Scales As Indicators Of Personal Adjustment And Academic Efficiency, Georgia Shepherd Chiles
Some California Psychological Inventory Scales As Indicators Of Personal Adjustment And Academic Efficiency, Georgia Shepherd Chiles
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Following the success of Alfred Binet's test of intellectual ability, many tests with many different purposes were developed. Some of these tests are referred to as tests of ability, others seek to establish the subject's typical performance or how he is most likely to act in a given situation. Personality tests fall into this second class. The two general methods of personality are referred to as unstructured and structured techniques. The unstructured method is time-consuming. One possibility is to make many personal observations of the subject in a given situation. We may use tests called the projective technique in which …

This handbook attempts to collect into one publication statements of those policies and procedures which are in frequent use. It should contribute to progress toward the solution of problems facing Marshall University in its day-by-day operation. Members of the faculty and administrative staffs, those who have long been with us as well as those who are new, will do well to keep the publication and consult it regularly.
This publishing venture represents another forward step in Marshall's working procedure. As we turn its pages, let us remember that we shall continue to need, for the solution of University problems, a …

An Evaluation Of Otis Alpha Tests For Primary Students In A County School System, James W. Atkins
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The problem was to investigate the adequacy of the testing program used for the assessment of intellectual abilities of primary school children in the Kanawha County Schools, Kanawha County, West Virginia. The Kanawha County School System has administered the Otis Quick-Scoring Alpha, short form, to third-grade students. Scores on these tests have been utilized for the assessment of the intellectual abilities of pupils in the primary grades throughout the county, furnishing subsequent aid in curriculum planning, and also helping teachers to assess the scholastic capability of individual students.

An Analysis Of The Educational Program At The West Virginia Forestry Camp For Youthful Male Offenders, Joseph Martin Hickman
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This study revealed that the West Virginia Forestry Camp has in its legal machinery the purpose of rehabilitating male juvenile offenders between the ages of 16 and 21. However, no overt statements of educational objectives were found in the rehabilitative program.
Tests revealed both a low intelligence level and a low grade achievement level among the cases examined.
Questionnaires made known the desire of many of the commitals to take part in vocational training at camp. This means of inquiry also made known the reluctancy of several boys to participate in any portion of the camp program except the work …
