Hospitality And Seminary Culture: A Phenomenological Study On The Presence And Practice Of Hospitality Between Seminary Leaders And Students, Jesse Matthew Adams
Hospitality And Seminary Culture: A Phenomenological Study On The Presence And Practice Of Hospitality Between Seminary Leaders And Students, Jesse Matthew Adams
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
While hospitality is a major biblical doctrine and a requirement of Christian living and outreach, few ministers begin their ministries recognizing the essence and essentiality of hospitality in ministry or intentionally highlight and model it to those they lead. One root cause for this may stem from the seminaries in which our ministers train, that our seminaries have no apparent agreement on a formal framework for teaching hospitality and too few seminaries are marked by a culture of hospitality. This study seeks to establish a formal framework for hospitality in seminary education. Such a framework could be used to instigate …
The Impact Of Leveled Literacy Kits On Family Engagement And School-To-Home Connections: Stakeholders’ Perceptions, Donna Atwood
The Impact Of Leveled Literacy Kits On Family Engagement And School-To-Home Connections: Stakeholders’ Perceptions, Donna Atwood
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Many caregivers do not have materials at home to read with their student that is on the student’s reading level. Educators do not always have the appropriate materials to send home to each student on their reading level. The goal for caregivers is to feel confident in having resources at home to help their students, educators, and caregivers to engage in literacy-focused family engagement and to have a school-home connection. However, based on multiple studies, many students read below grade level, and schools struggle with literacy-focused family engagement and making school-home connections. This study aimed to determine the impact of …

Graduate-Level Leadership Training For Speech-Language Pathologists: Perceptions, Attitudes, And Potential Effect On Career, Sandra Kemper
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The aim of this study is to determine how a perceived lack of leadership training at the graduate level contributes to inadequate preparedness for the clinical, professional, and supervisory leadership roles professionals hold within the field of speech-language pathology (Kummer, 2017). More specifically, this study will seek to identify current leadership concerns of practicing SLPs, exploring whether and/or how lack of leadership training has affected their professional growth or career. The information can serve to guide the development of leadership training opportunities in speech-language pathology graduate programs. This descriptive, non-experimental study utilized purposive sampling of speech-language pathologists licensed in the …

The Association Of Demographic Factors With The Integration And Commitment Of West Virginia’S International University Students, Amine Oudghiri
The Association Of Demographic Factors With The Integration And Commitment Of West Virginia’S International University Students, Amine Oudghiri
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This study explored the association of four independent variables (i.e., sex, class standing, GPA, and living status) with the academic integration, social integration, and institutional commitment (the dependent variables) of international students attending seven public regional universities in West Virginia. A researcher-developed, Likert-type questionnaire was used to examine the potential relationships among the variables. Results from point-biserial correlations indicated the relationships among the four demographic variables and each of the three dependent variables were not statistically significant, although a few statistically significant correlations were noted among the dependent variables’ sub-scale items. Results from independent samples t-tests also indicated a …

Recognizing Ableism And Practicing Disability Humility: Conceptualizing Disability Across The Lifespan, Katherine M. Atkins, Tamekia Bell, Tilottama Roy-White, Maria Page
Adultspan Journal
Disability culture is often misunderstood by counselors who lack extensive training in working with individuals with disabilities (IWDs) (Stuntzner & Hartley, 2014). This quantitative study used the Counseling Clients with Disability Survey (CCDS) to explore the beliefs and perceived knowledge of counselors-in-training (CITs), counselors, and counselor educators regarding preparation to counsel IWDs, which is particularly important as disability status can change across the lifespan, and given that the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) Standards Review Committee provided a guide to the draft standards incorporating the infusion of disability concepts. Results indicate that counselors were competent …
Integrating Feminist Approaches In Counseling Work With Adult Women, Kristen M. Toole
Integrating Feminist Approaches In Counseling Work With Adult Women, Kristen M. Toole
Adultspan Journal
The scope of ‘women’s issues’ in counseling is an ever-evolving landscape. Recent events such as the reversal of Roe v. Wade and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on women serve as powerful reminders of the necessity of this focus while underscoring a deep-rooted history of oppressive patriarchal structures. Therefore, counselors must remain informed of the unique considerations surrounding adult women in counseling and acquire proficiency in versatile techniques to meet this population’s nuanced needs. This article examines the complexity of contemporary womanhood and explores the fundamentals of Feminist Counseling Theory (FCT), a holistic, multiculturally conscious, social justice theory in counseling. …

Technological advancements, coupled with lower costs and accessibility, have made online courses and programs a practical option for higher education students. Unfortunately, the increasing online enrollment and advancing technology have allowed an increase in the opportunity for students to commit the act of plagiarism and impersonation in online course assignments, thus potentially compromising the academic integrity of online degree programs. This study examines the various practices and approaches of plagiarism and impersonation made available to students. Utilizing the systemic review of literature, the researcher compiles a list …

Power Of A Feminist Identity On Sense Of Self And Purpose, Kerry Diekmann
Adultspan Journal
This study centered on feminist-identified women and the meaning they made from their feminist identity. Using an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis design, eight women were interviewed to understand their lived experience and the influence their social or political identity had on how they experienced and made sense of their world.
