How Film Influences And Reflects States Of Consciousness - Through Films Of Julian Sands, Leila Kincaid
How Film Influences And Reflects States Of Consciousness - Through Films Of Julian Sands, Leila Kincaid
Journal of Conscious Evolution
Film, as a multivalent art form, uses archetypal themes and symbols that have the power to affect the consciousness of its viewers. The stories that play out on the screen through plot, setting, character, and the elements of storytelling through film carry rich and deep archetypal meaning for our culture and our psyches. This is how film can impact us on deep, subconscious levels and influence and change our consciousness, for good or ill. A look at two key films with the actor Julian Sands illustrates the way we, as viewers, experience a shift and even transformation in consciousness through …
Inclusion Of Muslim Perspectives In The International Baccalaureate Economics And Business Curriculum, Farida Salim
Inclusion Of Muslim Perspectives In The International Baccalaureate Economics And Business Curriculum, Farida Salim
Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE)
This paper deals with the idea of inclusion as a means to transform the school culture where all the pupils are cherished and fully represented in the learning experience despite their individual difference. The focus is on epistemic inclusion in the curriculum of international education (IE). The aims of IE reaffirmed by the UNESCO and the essential elements of IE are in-line with inclusive education. However, IE have been critiqued of being western in its construct. IE can neither be truly international nor inclusive if it fails to appreciate and appropriate non-western knowledge in an equitable manner. The paper is …
Philosophy In Prisons And The Cultivation Of Intellectual Character, Duncan Pritchard
Philosophy In Prisons And The Cultivation Of Intellectual Character, Duncan Pritchard
Journal of Prison Education and Reentry (2014-2023)
There have recently been a series of prominent projects in the UK that aim to bring philosophy into the heart of prison education. The aim of this paper is to consider a possible rationale for this pedagogical development. A distinction is drawn between a content and a sensibility approach to teaching philosophy, where the latter is primarily concerned not with teaching a particular subject matter but rather with developing a certain kind of critical expertise. It is argued that the sensibility conception of teaching philosophy dovetails with an influential account of the epistemic aim of education in terms of the …
The Structure, State, And Stream Of Mary Consciousness In The Quest For The Knowing Body, Christine Dennis
The Structure, State, And Stream Of Mary Consciousness In The Quest For The Knowing Body, Christine Dennis
Journal of Conscious Evolution
The science of consciousness has traditionally situated knowledge creation in the mind, and thus, marginalizes the knowing body. Returning to the body requires a decolonization of consciousness in Euro-Western research paradigms and in our bodies. This research is grounded in the spirituality indigenous to my Latinx matrilineage known as Mary consciousness, which frames the body as an epistemic pillar of knowledge creation. A feminist fleshing of the knowing body displaces the centrality of the mind by elevating indigenous ways of knowing. Material feminist worldviews contribute by expressing the degree to which the body has been marginalized as a valid source …
Building Bridges: Epistemic Violence And Mother–Daughter Pedagogies From The U.S.–Mexico Border, Tanya J. Gaxiola Serrano, Elvia Serrano
Building Bridges: Epistemic Violence And Mother–Daughter Pedagogies From The U.S.–Mexico Border, Tanya J. Gaxiola Serrano, Elvia Serrano
Journal of Critical Scholarship on Higher Education and Student Affairs
Living in the U.S.–Mexico borderlands, residents have intimately learned about the impact of the militarized policing of the physical border on their lives. While not often discussed, the policing transcends the border institution and targets the ways of knowing of People and Immigrants of Color. This essay features pláticas between two Mexican women educators from the border, la frontera, to challenge epistemic violence on the lives of U.S. Chicanas/Latinas. Intergenerational pedagogies of a mother–daughter dyad from the Tijuana–San Diego region serve as exemplars of the survival and resistance found in the borderlands. The narratives highlight their unique experiences, one as …
Rethinking The Epistemology And Learning Process In Contemporary Designstudio - A Constructionist Approach, Hally El Kony, Ghada El Kony, Magdy Mousa
Rethinking The Epistemology And Learning Process In Contemporary Designstudio - A Constructionist Approach, Hally El Kony, Ghada El Kony, Magdy Mousa
Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)
The paper examines the epistemology and learning process in the contemporary design studio. It provides a particular focus on the learners' engagement level and their ability to integrate their acquired knowledge in a systemic approach that enables them to create innovative yet authentic settings and products. In this context, the authors investigate the impacts of two aspects on the design process, the design outcome and the overall learning quality. These aspects are narrowed down to :1- the learning environment and theories as implemented in design studios, and 2- the perceptual behavior and its related variables as integrated in the design …

(W)Here Is Here?: Variations On Voice And Location In Environmental Education, Alexei Desmarais
Summit to Salish Sea: Inquiries and Essays
This paper revolves around the question “where is here?”, a question that has implications for the politics of self and politics of place. Implications for how we think about ourselves in place, in relationality to other perspectives and epistemic positions, and specifically in relationship to specific geographical, socio-political, and historical structures. Attending to place and emplacement can help us to uncover and celebrate the vitality of particular, incomplete knowledge(s). In working to unsettle universal and hegemonic conceptions of how and what we know, this paper employs a polyphonic and queer logic, which is to say that the many voices and …
A Pedagogy Of Deep Listening In E-Learning, Laryea, Kerri
A Pedagogy Of Deep Listening In E-Learning, Laryea, Kerri
Journal of Conscious Evolution
This paper examines deep listening as a pedagogy in 21st century online education. The topic is situated in the intersubjectivity of computer-mediated communication in learning environments that foster transformative experiences. The transdisciplinary orientation of the paper includes the complex and overlapping lenses through which multiple ways of teaching, learning, and knowing are viewed and experienced in the context of fostering transformation in online education in a time of rapid growth in technological innovation, globalization, and significant environmental change. It transcends an individual disciplinary research and focus, bridging epistemologies to consider the felt sense of deep listening in the educator’s role.
Epistemological Ruptures: Flashback On Fieldwork Dilemmas While Doing Research On Friends At Home, Israel Aguilar
Epistemological Ruptures: Flashback On Fieldwork Dilemmas While Doing Research On Friends At Home, Israel Aguilar
The Qualitative Report
While doing fieldwork at home and/or with people who are familiar can yield new knowledge, researchers using ethnographic techniques ought to first assume the role of apprentice and enact vulnerability before they can represent findings that represent what really happened. Doing otherwise can tarnish relationships or jeopardize a study. The history of narrative within ethnographic research is discussed as an introduction to the author’s own personal narrative, which is in the form of a flashback that illustrates the journey he embarked on in 2010 when he initiated dissertation research in his hometown of south Texas. It is here where he …
Wabi-Sabi Mathematics, Jean-Francois Maheux
Wabi-Sabi Mathematics, Jean-Francois Maheux
Journal of Humanistic Mathematics
Mathematics and aesthetics have a long history in common. In this relation however, the aesthetic dimension of mathematics largely refers to concepts such as purity, absoluteness, symmetry, and so on. In stark contrast to such a nexus of ideas, the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi values imperfections, temporality, incompleteness, earthly crudeness, and even contradiction. In this paper, I discuss the possibilities of “wabi-sabi mathematics” by showing (1) how wabi-sabi mathematics is conceivable; (2) how wabi-sabi mathematics is observable; and (3) why we should bother about wabi-sabi mathematics

Esquisse D’Un Projet Épistémologique Pour La Science Politique Dans Une Afrique Post-Génocide, Mame-Penda Ba
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
This article attempts to answer two main questions: “What does it mean to teach political science in an African university when oneself is African?” and “what social realities are we documenting (or should we document)?” As a political scientist, I came to ask myself these questions based on my encounter with the genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda, and based on the questions that this major event had kindled in me. My encounter with the subject of “genocide” was in all respects an upheaval because I understood suddenly a large weakness in the way political science was taught at Université …
Toward Resonant, Imaginative Experiences In Ecological And Democratic Education. A Response To "Imagination And Experience: An Integrative Framework", Michael Derby, Sean Blenkinsop, John Telford, Laura Piersol, Michael Caulkins
Toward Resonant, Imaginative Experiences In Ecological And Democratic Education. A Response To "Imagination And Experience: An Integrative Framework", Michael Derby, Sean Blenkinsop, John Telford, Laura Piersol, Michael Caulkins
Democracy and Education
In this response to Fettes's "Imagination and Experience," the authors further consider the varieties of educational experience that inspire ecological flourishing and a living democracy. The essential interconnectedness of encounter-driven and language-driven ways of knowing are explored with particular reference to the authors' involvement in a research project at an innovative elementary school in British Columbia, Canada.
Art, Action Research, And Activism At Artpark, Carole Woodlock, Mary Wyrick
Art, Action Research, And Activism At Artpark, Carole Woodlock, Mary Wyrick
Journal of Social Theory in Art Education
The authors have an ongoing interest in combining local history, culture, and environmental issues as topics for teaching. As newcomers to western New York, we became fascinated with the story of Artpark in Lewiston, New York. High on the edge of the Niagara Gorge, the site of Artpark has a complicated history that has been enlivened by Native Americans, the French, the British, contemporary artists, senators, toxic waste specialists, visiting art teachers, and local students. The passage and effects of time on nature, art, and culture have been an important influence on art production since the beginning of Artpark in …
