Acute Blood Pressure Responses To Static And Dynamic Exercise: Racial Differences, Reuben Leon Wright
Acute Blood Pressure Responses To Static And Dynamic Exercise: Racial Differences, Reuben Leon Wright
Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education
African Americans have a higher incidence of hypertension than other racial groups. Furthermore, some research suggests that normotensive individuals who exhibit exaggerated blood pressure (BP) responses to exercise may be at risk for future hypertension. This study sought to determine if normotensive African Americans exhibited exaggerated BP responses to static exercise or dynamic exercise relative to Caucasian Americans and Asian Americans. Thirty normotensive subjects participated from each of the three racial groups (15 males and 15 females). Subjects held 30% of maximal voluntary contraction (right knee extension) for 3 minutes, and BP was recorded during the third minute. On a …

A Comparison Of A Traditional Physical Educcation Program To A Movement Exploration Program Involving Junior High School Socially Maladjusted And Emotionally Disturbed Students, Edward F, Cowles
All Master's Theses
Educators have a responsibility to provide a physical education program for the socially maladjusted and emotionally disturbed. Some authorities recognize the problems and special handicaps of the socially maladjusted and emotionally disturbed students and recommend experimental variations in teaching methods from traditional methodology. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not a planned program of movement exploration would show an efficient way of improving the physical fitness and motor abilities of an experimental group of junior high school socially maladjusted and emotionally disturbed students. The experimental movement program was compared to a traditional program of physical education …
Physical Working Capacity Of Adult Men Resulting From A Progressive Aerobics Program, Gary Kaye
Physical Working Capacity Of Adult Men Resulting From A Progressive Aerobics Program, Gary Kaye
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study was designed to determine the effects of a progressive aerobics training program on the physical working capacity of adults as measured on the bicycle ergometer.
The following hypotheses were tested:
- A progressive aerobics training program does not increase physical working capacity (PWC).
- A progressive aerobics training program has no effect on resting, exercise or recovery heart rate.
- A progressive aerobics training program does not increase predicted maximum oxygen consumption (VO2).
A Study Designed To Establish Norms For The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test Utilizing Somatotypes, Dean A. Blevins
A Study Designed To Establish Norms For The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test Utilizing Somatotypes, Dean A. Blevins
All Master's Theses
The purpose of this study is to develop norms for the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test in each somatotype classification as determined by the Heath-Carter anthropometric measurement. At the present time, norms exist only for the group as a whole which is comprised mainly of mesomorphs. This, of course, results in a great many endomorphs who score poorly, or not at all, and some ectomorphs who also do poorly. It is proposed that endomorphs, ectomorphs, and mesomorphs should each have their own norms.
A Comparison Of A Routine Training Program And An Exer-Genie Isometric-Isotonic Conditioning Program With Respect To Their Effects On Cardiovascular Condition And Jumping Ability, Kenneth R. Jacobs
All Master's Theses
It was the purpose of this study to determine statistically the effect of an Exer-Genie isometric-isotonic conditioning program on the jumping ability and cardiovascular fitness of junior high school athletes, as compared to a group of junior high school athletes involved in a routine conditioning program using calisthenics. The Sargent Jump Test was used to determine jumping ability and the Cameron Heartometer was used to determine cardiovascular fitness. Each group was compared in view of time spent on conditioning.
A Comparison Of Isometric Exercises And Weight Training On The Development Of Leg Strength And Jumping Ability In Secondary School Boys, Larry Charles Pryse
A Comparison Of Isometric Exercises And Weight Training On The Development Of Leg Strength And Jumping Ability In Secondary School Boys, Larry Charles Pryse
All Master's Theses
It was the purpose of this study (1) to determine the respective effectiveness of isometric and isotonic training in the development of leg strength; (2) to show the relationship of each of the two methods in leg strength development; (3) to investigate the improvement of jumping ability, as revealed through an experimental study; and (4) to compare both methods with the physical education exercises used at Davis High School.
Isometric Exercise Versus Isotonic Exercise As A Means Of Building And Retaining Strength, Rodney L. Waddell
Isometric Exercise Versus Isotonic Exercise As A Means Of Building And Retaining Strength, Rodney L. Waddell
All Master's Theses
It was the purpose of this study to compare results from the selected isotonic exercises as recommended by Steinhaus, the selected isometric exercises as recommended by Karpovich, and a non-directed exercise program on the seventh and eighth grade male students of Monroe Junior High School as a means of building and retaining strength which was measured by the Roger's Strength Test.
An Investigation Of The Effect Of Isometric Contraction Exercises On The Development Of Strength, Talmadge Glynn Moore
An Investigation Of The Effect Of Isometric Contraction Exercises On The Development Of Strength, Talmadge Glynn Moore
Graduate Student Research Papers
It was the purpose of this study to investigate the pros and cons of a new-and-old form of exercise called isometric contraction and to determine its place in the realm of athletics and physical fitness. Through research the paper will attempt to reach a conclusion as to the predicted success of isometric contraction upon strength1 a component of physical fitness. It will attempt to show the advantages and disadvantages of isometric contraction as a means of attaining, maintaining, and improving strength.
The Administration Of Safety In Physical Education, James John Nelson
The Administration Of Safety In Physical Education, James John Nelson
Graduate Student Research Papers
It is essential that school systems in the United States strive to make physical education programs as safe as possible. To ignore this fact is to invite mass disapproval by the general public. Once this has happened a curtailment of physical education programs could take place which would, eventually, have detremental effects on the physical fitness of youth. As in any other phase of school work the primary responsibility for the successful functioning of the school safety program in physical education rests with the administrator. To meet this responsibility with intelligent leadership should be of prime concern to the administrator. …
