Tight Super-Edge-Graceful Labelings Of Trees And Their Applications, Alex Collins, Colton Magnant, Hua Wang

The concept of graceful labeling of graphs has been extensively studied. In 1994, Mitchem and Simoson introduced a stronger concept called super-edge-graceful labeling for some classes of graphs. Among many other interesting pioneering results, Mitchem and Simoson provided a simple but powerful recursive way of constructing super-edge-graceful trees of odd order. In this note, we present a stronger concept of “tight” super-edge-graceful labeling. Such a super-edge graceful labeling has an additional constraint on the edge and vertices with the largest and smallest labels. In the United States, one of the Standards for Mathematical Practice of the Common Core Curriculum (Common Core State Standards Initiative, 2010) is Model with mathematics. This standard requires that students be taught in a manner that will enable them to ―apply the mathematics they know to solve problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace‖ (p. 7). However many prospective and practicing teachers acquire a pedagogical style that does not support this standard. A new five parameter gamma-generalized modified Weibull (GGMW) distribution which includes exponential, Rayleigh, modified Weibull, Weibull, gamma-modified Weibull, gamma-modified Rayleigh, gamma-modified exponential, gamma-Weibull, gamma-Rayleigh, and gamma-exponential distributions as special cases is proposed and studied. Some mathematical properties of the new class of distributions including moments, distribution of the order statistics, and Renyi entropy are presented. Maximum likelihood estimation technique is used to estimate the model parameters and applications to a real datasets to illustrates the usefulness of the proposed class of models are presented.

In our project, we want to develop an online-tutorial which helps students to learn and practice basic program functions in Java. It includes learning the major features in Java language and practicing developing programs by online quizzes, code generating, debugging, executing, and verifying the result. In short our projects show a Java tutorial which includes learning materials and online Java compiler and interpreter to execute Java programs.

We consider a two sided noetherian ring R such that the character modules of Gorenstein injective left R-modules are Gorenstein flat right R-modules. We then prove that the class of Gorenstein flat right R-modules is preenveloping. We also show that the class of Gorenstein flat complexes of right R-modules is preenevloping in Ch(R).
In the second part of the paper we give examples of rings with the property that the character modules of Gorenstein injective modules are Gorenstein flat. We prove that any two sided noetherian ring R with i.d.Rop R < 1 has the desired property. We also prove that if R is a two sided noetherian ring with a dualizing bimodule R VR and such that R is left n-perfect for some positive integer n, then the character modules of Gorenstein injective modules are Gorenstein flat.

In this paper, we describe and review several examples of web technology-enabled teaching and learning approaches at undergraduate level in an Asian institution of higher learning. We begin by reporting on experiences made in the context of an iPad-enabled mobile learning project conducted during a Knowl- edge Management course (excursion) in support of the university’s technology-enabled learning vision. Universities collect qualitative and quantitative feedback from students upon course completion in order to improve course quality and students’ learning experience. Combining program-wide and module-specific questions, universities collect feedback from students on three main aspects of a course namely, teaching style, content, and learning experience. The feedback is collected through both qualitative comments and quantitative scores. In this paper we report our study on the problem of competency acquisition when students progress from one course to another and more generally, from one term to the next. We observed that some students moved on to a second programming course without acquiring some of the competencies in the first programming course. This leads to problem in the second course, especially when these competencies are pre-requisites for this course. We present results of our investigation into student understanding of the physical significance and utility of the Boltzmann factor in several simple models. We identify various justifications, both correct and incorrect, that students use when answering written questions that require application of the Boltzmann factor. Results from written data as well as teaching interviews suggest that many students can neither recognize situations in which the Boltzmann factor is applicable nor articulate the physical significance of the Boltzmann factor as an expression for multiplicity, a fundamental quantity of statistical mechanics. Identifying Student Difficulties With Heat Engines, Entropy, And The Carnot Cycle, Trevor I. Smith, Warren M. Christensen, Donald B. Mountcastle, John R. Thompson
Physics and Astronomy Faculty Scholarship
We report on several specific student difficulties regarding the second law of thermodynamics in the context of heat engines within upper-division undergraduate thermal physics courses. Data come from ungraded written surveys, graded homework assignments, and videotaped classroom observations of tutorial activities. Written data show that students in these courses do not clearly articulate the connection between the Carnot cycle and the second law after lecture instruction. This result is consistent both within and across student populations. Observation data provide evidence for myriad difficulties related to entropy and heat engines, including students’ struggles in reasoning about situations that are physically impossible …
