Meetings Without Measure: A Process Of Understanding, Lassie (M.F.) Dudley
Meetings Without Measure: A Process Of Understanding, Lassie (M.F.) Dudley
MA TESOL Collection
The ability to understand others is not a fortunate talent or an inherited trait. There is a recognizable process of understanding which can be taught, learned, or practiced at any moment of the day. A person's ability to understand others is directly related to his ability to see others truthfully. In turn, his ability to see others truthfully is in direct relation to his freedom from his own desires and perceived needs. Self-acceptance, which is self-love, is crucial in attaining freedom from our own perceived needs, and therefore central to the process of understanding.

An Educational History Of The Gullahs Of Coastal South Carolina From 1700 To 1900 (Black Education), Elizabeth Hoit-Thetford
An Educational History Of The Gullahs Of Coastal South Carolina From 1700 To 1900 (Black Education), Elizabeth Hoit-Thetford
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The educational efforts of the first fifty years of the 1700s for the Gullahs, black slaves brought to South Carolina's low country, were a by-product of the Church of England's concern for the souls of heathens. Through the Church's offspring, the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, missionaries were sent to South Carolina beginning in 1702. By 1704, Samuel Thomas, the Society's first missionary there, reported that he had taught about twenty blacks to read, and by 1743 the Society opened a school for blacks in Charleston despite a 1740 law prohibiting slave education. Using two …

Simulated Business Curriculum For Business Communications High School Classes, Kathy J. Rody
Simulated Business Curriculum For Business Communications High School Classes, Kathy J. Rody
All Graduate Projects
Current methods of teaching business communications in the high school classroom are very traditional. By developing a business communications simulation, the traditional classroom has an additional dimension for practicing letter writing skills, as well as oral communications and human relations skills. The goal in this project was to change the traditionally taught business communication course into a more practical hands-on experience of what is done in an actual employment situation.

A Cultural Program: Cultural Awareness Activities For American High School Students, Susan Leslie Tomasello
MA TESOL Collection
This paper focuses on the planning, organization, and results of the Cultural Program that I presented to American, ninth grade, world Culture students. I specifically address pre-program activities, the Program itself, and post-program activities. The activities focus the students' attention, create interest, and arouse their curiosity about other cultures. Cultural information on Southeast Asia is given to provide students with background knowledge prior to the Cultural Program. The program itself has three components: A slide show, dancers, and a panel discussion. Follow up exercises include a post-program questionnaire and an awareness writing activity. The format of this paper allows for …

A Review Of Educational Balance And Its Relationship To The Daily Schedule In Eighteen Seventh-Day Adventist Residence Academies In The United States, Eugene W. Rau
Dissertations
Problem. Within the time constraints of the 24-hour day and the sevenday week, and under the pressure of the increased number of units to be earned before graduation from Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) residence academies, it was doubtful that students were experiencing educational balance. The number of and time for activities in which a student could be engaged, plus the content and emphasis on daily functions, were studied and reported under five areas of educational balance: academic achievement, vocational and professional interests, social growth, physical activities, and religious experience.
Method. Representing grades ten, eleven, and twelve in 18 out of 36 …
A Desegregation Study Of Public Schools In North Carolina, Ransome E. Holcombe
A Desegregation Study Of Public Schools In North Carolina, Ransome E. Holcombe
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate and describe the desegregation of public schools in a selected southern state between the years 1954 and 1974. In developing the research project that described the elimination of legal biracialism in North Carolina's schools, public sentiment emerged as a major factor. North Carolina's public schools were unusual when compared to other states with dual systems because, despite the fact that the state had one of the largest black populations in the nation, the desegregation drama proceeded peacefully and successfully, albeit slowly. Throughout the twenty-year period that was required to completely eliminate the …

Factors Indicating Voag/Ffa Program Quality As Perceived By Idaho Voag Instructors And Principals, Richard M. Foster, Louis E. Riensenberg
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications
In public school education, as in private industry, a difference of opinion may exist between management and production about the quality of activities inherent in an occupation. The high school principals and vocational agriculture teachers in our public school systems are certainly no exception. Both have the common goal of making the vocational program within the school district the highest quality possible. In order to develop a high-quality vocational agriculture program, these two individuals must not only communicate with one another what they think are the most important and highest quality activities in which the vocational agriculture teacher should participate, …

It was the intent of this study to: a) identify specific microcomputer competencies needed by vocational agriculture instructors and to make comparisons by state, size of vocational agriculture department, and years of teaching experience; b) identify barriers that may impede the use of microcomputers; and c) assess the current status of microcomputer usage in Nebraska and Iowa vocational agriculture programs.
Personality-Type Differences Of Students And Faculty And Their Effect On Student Achievement, Leverne Barrett
Personality-Type Differences Of Students And Faculty And Their Effect On Student Achievement, Leverne Barrett
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications
There is an increasing int rest among agricultural educators to find ways to improve instruction and learning. Within the last 10 years considerable attention has been given tot he effects of personality type on teaching and learning. Nearly 700 studies have been completed, but few have involved students of agriculture. Lawrence (1982) has stated that one of the greatest problems of American education today is the failure to recognize the unique learning needs of differing personality types.
Changing Negative Attitudes Of Elementary Children Toward The Aged Through Positive Interaction And Aging Education Within The School Curriculum, Mary Emily King
Changing Negative Attitudes Of Elementary Children Toward The Aged Through Positive Interaction And Aging Education Within The School Curriculum, Mary Emily King
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Children develop attitudes at an early age, both positive and negative. Negative attitudes toward the aged can be changed through direct contact between the elderly and through aging education within the curriculum. Children have negative attitudes toward the elderly and the aging process. Direct contact can change these views by providing interaction between children and the elderly while aging education can bring about an awareness of the aging process and of the aged. With aging being an inevitable and important part of being human, it is necessary as well as important for educators to help children develop positive attitudes toward …
Interpersonal Interactions In Student-Teacher Relationships: Types And Effect On Student Achievememt, Cheryl S. Spivey
Interpersonal Interactions In Student-Teacher Relationships: Types And Effect On Student Achievememt, Cheryl S. Spivey
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to identify the types of interpersonal interactions, in student-teacher relationships, that have an effect on student achievement. These essential conditions of communication have been labeled: warmth, empathy, respect, genuineness, concreteness, self-disclosure, immediacy, and confrontation. Communication of these conditions, by teachers to students, shows a significant effect on student achievement when observed by classroom researchers. This investigation has also addressed the efficiency of training procedures used with groups of teachers who participated in the research studies, the results of which support the increasing awareness of human-relations development.
