A Competency Analysis Of Waterpark Aquatic Professionals, Christopher A. Crume, William D. Ramos
A Competency Analysis Of Waterpark Aquatic Professionals, Christopher A. Crume, William D. Ramos
International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education
The purpose of this study was to further the knowledge base in the aquatics field and assist in the development of universal standards to ensure that competent managers are employed at waterpark type venues. Until recently, thanks in part to the establishment of the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC 2014), universal standards did not exist in aquatics. The development of standards in the field will help to ensure continuity in policies among all facility types, properly trained professionals, and ultimately safer environments for participants. Using a pair of five-point Likert scales to sample 600 aquatic professionals, this study sought to …
Hospitality Shindig Kentucky Derby Fundraising Event: Success And Challenges, Gina Fe G. Causin, Erin Keir, Shelby Walker, Victoria Wentzel, Ryan Hall
Hospitality Shindig Kentucky Derby Fundraising Event: Success And Challenges, Gina Fe G. Causin, Erin Keir, Shelby Walker, Victoria Wentzel, Ryan Hall
Faculty Publications
Special events such as fundraising activities are types of events that individuals typically attend to participate in the festivities and enjoy with friends, family and colleagues (Smith, Sargent, Causin & Olle, 2019; Causin & McCarthy, 2017; Causin et. al, 2010). According to Smith, et. al (2019), fundraising in higher education has been around for hundreds of years. In the early 1900’s, the driving motivator for fundraising was to provide funds for students specifically for scholarships, housing expenses, books and food. Fundraising is the process of seeking and gathering voluntary financial contributions by engaging individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or governmental agencies …
Tourism Taxes In Italy: A Sustainable Perspective, Lucia Rotaris, Marta Carrozzo
Tourism Taxes In Italy: A Sustainable Perspective, Lucia Rotaris, Marta Carrozzo
Journal of Global Business Insights
In Italy, a tourism tax was introduced in 2011, since then it has been adopted in most of the Italian provincial capitals and tourist cities. This tax can mitigate the negative externalities caused by tourists; however, it should be carefully planned both in terms of the amount of money to be levied and in terms of the uses to be financed with the tax revenues, it could, otherwise, negatively impact the tourism sector, decreasing—rather than increasing— the social welfare. The aim of this paper is to assess the acceptability of such a tax and to examine how the tax should …
Measures Of Fluid Loss During Surfing: A Preliminary Analysis In Recreational Surfers, Rudi A. Meir, Zachary James Crowley-Mchattan Dr, Lyndon O. Brooks, Blake Duncan, Christian Gorrie, Jeremy Sheppard
Measures Of Fluid Loss During Surfing: A Preliminary Analysis In Recreational Surfers, Rudi A. Meir, Zachary James Crowley-Mchattan Dr, Lyndon O. Brooks, Blake Duncan, Christian Gorrie, Jeremy Sheppard
International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education
Surfing is a popular sport, but little is known about the extent to which recreational surfers experience fluid loss from this activity. The principal objective of this research was to estimate fluid loss during a surfing session through changes in pre- to post-session urine color (Ucol), urine osmolality (Uosm), and body mass (BM). Data were collected from 11 recreational surfers across 14 surf sessions conducted under various environmental (mean water temperature = 22.1 SD ± 2.3; range = 20-26oC; air temperature range = 13.1-31.5oC; relative humidity range = 37.5-88.1%) and surfing conditions (e.g. winter/summer, wave type, …
Hotel Sector Forecast Accuracy In El Paso: 2006-2016, Thomas M. Fullerton Jr., Adam G. Walke
Hotel Sector Forecast Accuracy In El Paso: 2006-2016, Thomas M. Fullerton Jr., Adam G. Walke
Border Region Modeling Project
This study evaluates the accuracy of previously published econometric forecasts for seven lodging sector variables that measure hotel activity in El Paso, Texas. The hotel forecasts have been generated annually using an econometric model of the El Paso metropolitan economy from 2006 forward. Predictive accuracy is evaluated relative to random walk benchmarks. Assessment is completed using both descriptive forecast error summary statistics as well as formal statistical tests. The econometric model outperforms the random walk benchmarks for a majority of the variables analyzed. However, statistical tests of forecast error differentials do not yield conclusive evidence in favor of the econometric …
An Overview And Analysis Of The Impacts Of Extreme Heat On The Aviation Industry, Brandon T. Carpenter
An Overview And Analysis Of The Impacts Of Extreme Heat On The Aviation Industry, Brandon T. Carpenter
Pursuit - The Journal of Undergraduate Research at The University of Tennessee
Weather is a common cause of flight delays and cancellations. However, the vast majority of the time when thinking about weather and its effect on aviation, winter conditions such as snow come to mind. Heat is usually one of the last types of weather we associate with airline challenges. Recently, a bomb cyclone made headlines for the disruptions it caused with travel, especially at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Interestingly, the exact opposite of winter weather conditions can cause just as many challenges. During the summer of 2017, a number of flights at various airports such as Phoenix Sky Harbor …

Modeling Green Ebusiness Adoption Among Small And Medium Tourism Enterprises In Tanzania, Juma James Masele
Modeling Green Ebusiness Adoption Among Small And Medium Tourism Enterprises In Tanzania, Juma James Masele
The African Journal of Information Systems
This study was set to model Green eBusiness adoption among SMTEs in Tanzania, right from sourcing, operations, and to end-of-life-management. The study employed the use of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze quantitative data collected from 240 respondents selected from 80 SMTEs in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Zanzibar, who were in operations for at least three years. Although there were twelve hypotheses formulated, only seven hypotheses (with constructs Self-Efficacy, Effort Expectancy, Facilitating Conditions, Coercive Pressures, Intention to Use both to commitment and to Green eBusiness, and Commitment towards Green eBusiness adoption) were revealed significant. Others (with constructs Performance …
Squeezed Out Of The Marketplace: Legal And Policy Issues Pertaining To Airline Seating Configurations, Daniel Friedenzohn, Stephen Shrewsbury
Squeezed Out Of The Marketplace: Legal And Policy Issues Pertaining To Airline Seating Configurations, Daniel Friedenzohn, Stephen Shrewsbury
Publications
The quality of airline service in the United States has received a significant amount of attention since the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 went into effect. Much of that attention has been negative due to efforts by the airlines to find ways to increase revenue by charging for services that were once included in the price of a ticket, such as charging for checked luggageI and other add-on fees for passengers. 2 Given the high level of competition during much of this period, it was certainly expected, and to some extent understandable, that carriers would attempt to find new revenue …
