Logistics Transformation: Centralizing Air Force Logistics Information Command And Control, Darrell O. Burghard Mar 2001

Logistics Transformation: Centralizing Air Force Logistics Information Command And Control, Darrell O. Burghard

Theses and Dissertations

Current Air Force logistics information systems do not provide Air Force leaders and single managers a real-time sole-source logistics information system able to assess current capabilities and identify potential future problem items prior to becoming systemic problem parts. Centralizing information may provide improved command and control and support of the warfighter by reducing the time it takes to track down and identify information. Using a Value Focused Thinking approach, this thesis explored how the Air Force can improve the accessibility of Air Force logistics information. This study began at the behest of the AFMC LG/CD in an effort to determine …

A Combined Inventory And Delivery Model For Repairable Items, Bahtiyar Eren Mar 2000

A Combined Inventory And Delivery Model For Repairable Items, Bahtiyar Eren

Theses and Dissertations

Traditionally, logistics analysts have treated the delivery problem separate from the inventory and repair problems. In other words, each of these three problems-delivery, inventory, and repair-are treated individually. We combine the vehicle routing problems and inventory allocation problems in a single formulation. Furthermore, lateral re-supply is considered, in that supplies are not only available from the main depot, but also from other bases. After we get the lateral re-supply information, we set a delivery allocation plan out of the main depot. Such allocations are then delivered via vehicles stationed at the main depot. There is a repair capability for each …

Strategic Performance Measurement In An Air Force Logistics Organization, Michael A. Grover Dec 1997

Strategic Performance Measurement In An Air Force Logistics Organization, Michael A. Grover

Theses and Dissertations

Strategic performance measures are being used to define and communicate longer term planning imperatives to organizational members and external stakeholders. These measures are designed to support the concept of a strategic management process, in which the progress towards strategic goals, and also the goals are continuously reviewed and updated. The measures are linked through associations and communicate the strategy as a series of hypothesized cause and effect relationships. One such performance measurement system, the balanced scorecard, describes the organizational strategy with reference to four common organizational perspectives: Financial, Customer, Internal Process and Growth and Development. A case study is performed …

Development Of The Base Support Plan Process Model For Evaluation Of Proposed Process Improvement Initiatives, Daniel T. Kalosky, Patrick G. Walker Sep 1997

Development Of The Base Support Plan Process Model For Evaluation Of Proposed Process Improvement Initiatives, Daniel T. Kalosky, Patrick G. Walker

Theses and Dissertations

The primary role of the United States Air Force (USAF) logistics planner is to plan for war. For the wing level logistics planner, an important war planning product they are responsible for is the base support plan (BSP). The BSP is the installation level plan to support unified and specified command wartime operations plans, as well as MAJCOM supporting plans. Two Armstrong Laboratory sponsored initiatives exist to automate and enhance some of the BSP processes: the Survey Tool for Employment Planning (STEP) and Beddown Capability and Assessment Tool (BCAT). This research explored the BSP process and improvement initiatives by (1) …

Logistics Control Facility: A Normative Model For Total Asset Visibility In The Air Force Logistics System, Eric C. Lorraine, Michael E. Michno Sep 1994

Logistics Control Facility: A Normative Model For Total Asset Visibility In The Air Force Logistics System, Eric C. Lorraine, Michael E. Michno

Theses and Dissertations

Computer simulation was used to evaluate the impact of a Logistics Control Facility LCF with a Total Asset Visibility TAV system on the AF logistics systems ability to support a weapon system. For this study, the B-1B was chosen as the weapon system of interest. Two performance measures, expected fully mission capable rates and expected pipeline quantities, were used to evaluate the simulation results. Two-sample tests were used to compare the current logistics configuration of the B-1B with the same configuration, but with an LCF controlling the movement of assets. The expected FMC rate performance measure showed significant results while …

Also included in this study is a review of the Air Force …

Determining Cargo Flow For Air Mobility Command's Channel Cargo System, Michael Del Rosario Mar 1993

Determining Cargo Flow For Air Mobility Command's Channel Cargo System, Michael Del Rosario

Theses and Dissertations

This research investigated using a multiperiod multicommodity minimal cost flow (M2MCF) formulation to model the channel cargo system of the United States Air Force's Air Mobility Command (AMC). The objective of this research was to determine how cargo should flow in the channel cargo system in order to minimize the cargo's delay enroute from its origin to its destination. This research showed the size of an M2MCF model of the channel cargo system exceeds AMC's computational capabilities. Additionally, this research describes three approaches to reduce the problem size. Because of the problem size and other modeling limitations discovered during this …

Combat Service Support And The Total Force, Lewis A. Germann Sep 1991

Combat Service Support And The Total Force, Lewis A. Germann

Theses and Dissertations

This study determined the minimum essential active Army Total Force Combat Service Support structure required for Contingency Force (CF) operations to provide the Army with the necessary organization for a response to a national crisis. A model called MICROFASTALS, used in combination with LOTUS 1-2-3 software, developed these forces. A literature search provided background information describing: the history of the Total Force Policy to the present; how the Department of Defense and the Army was organized to meet the Total Force initiatives, including an in depth description of the Army CSS structure; the latest National Security and Military Strategy that …

Freight Transport Deregulation And Its Impact In New Zealand, Gagadish C Guria Jul 1987

Freight Transport Deregulation And Its Impact In New Zealand, Gagadish C Guria

IIMB Management Review

In recent years a move towards deregulation, i.e. the replacement of quantity restrictions on the number of licences, on maximum and/or minimum rates, on geographic boundaries of operation etc., by quality restriction on drivers’ qualifications and systems of operation, has become a significant development in the transport policy of many countries: Australia. Sweden, Switzerland,U.K., USA, and New Zealand. The trend was first set in Australia, in 1954 when the interstate freight transport was deregulated. Later on this trend spread to individual states: South Australia in 1968 and New South Wales in 1974. In Sweden a move towards deregulation was initiated …
