Atlantic Marketing Journal

Abstract - Jobvite, a recruiting platform for the social web, reports from their annual 2012 survey of recruiters that 92% of U.S. companies are using social networking sites (SNS) for hiring purposes (Jobvit, 2012). Career Builder reported in 2009 that 45% of employers were using SNS to screen and research applicants (CareerBuilder, 2009). It is important that faculty and support staff working to place students, and the students themselves, understand the developments and practices in the use of social networking sites for job search and recruiting and the best methods, as well as detriments when marketing themselves. This study examines …

From Offshoring To Reshoring: A Conceptual Framework For Manufacturing Location Decisions In A Slow-Steam World, Jeffrey J. Risher

Doctor of Business Administration Dissertations

Reshoring, the act of moving manufacturing operations from an offshore location to the nation of the parent company, is rapidly becoming one of the most researched topics in business. Reshoring describes the reversal of a previous offshoring decision, whereby a firm either relocated its own manufacturing operations overseas or outsourced a significant portion of production to offshore suppliers. With looming uncertainty in global consumer demand and diminishing returns in offshore markets, reshoring is gaining exposure as a viable strategy for firms experiencing a diluted competitive advantage as grounded costs approach market equilibrium.

With academic literature on reshoring only beginning to …

Impact Of Country Personality On Attitude Toward Foreign Products : Self-Congruity As A Mediator, Murat Aktan, Paul W. Chao

Atlantic Marketing Journal

This research examines the direct effect of country personality (CP) on consumer product attitude and indirect effect through consumer self-congruity between CP and his/her own self-concept on product attitude in an emerging country- Turkey. We propose an integrated structural equation model to examine the relationships. Measurement scales for CP, self-congruity and attitude are developed whose validities and reliabilities are confirmed by exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analyses with data collected from a sample of consumers in Turkey on two countries: USA and China.

The results reveal that four out of the original six dimensions of CP remain after a …

An Exploratory Analysis To Understand Organic Food Market In The United States In Comparison To Europe, Alfiya Ansar, Ismet Anitsal, M. Meral Anitsal

Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings

To meet the increasing continuous demand of food, many techniques are used for mass production food but these techniques in turn have diminished the quality of many products. The negative effects associated with such production methods make them controversial in nature and thus requires discussion. One such method is the use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), which involves genetically modifying the Deoxyribose Nucleic Acids (DNA) of plants or animals of interest to introduce certain traits such as resistance to pests or diseases. Food allergies are on a rise and researchers estimate that up to 15 million Americans suffer from vast …

Is Marketing Still Part Of Supply Chain Management, And Should Marketing Academics And Practitioners Care?, Stephen M. Rutner, C. David Shepherd

Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings

Over the last twenty years, there has been a shift in emphasis in many colleges of business to incorporate Supply Chain Management (SCM). The questions of how to include this material and who are the responsible parties to deliver it impact the focus, depth and topics included in the SCM material. Since true SCM is boundary spanning in both academic and practitioner arenas, it is an important question to examine the role of Marketing in the overall process.

Over the past twenty years Supply Chain Management (SCM) has exploded as both an academic field of study and a critical competency …

Supplier Collaborative And Ethical Consideration In The Vendor Selection Process, Amy Melton, Terry Damron, Magan Calhoun

Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings

Abstract

This examination of location strategy implementation by Pittsburgh-based service firms, particularly eco-friendly initiatives, was pursued via a case-study approach. The factors selected for comparison were site size and cost; air, rail, highway, and waterway systems; zoning restrictions; proximity to markets/suppliers/competitors; and environmental impact issues. The study included five service-based firms, most of which made decisions concerning new locations within the last few years, and highlighted those factors most significant in the location strategies of local service firms. Findings evidence proximity to market/suppliers/competitors was the most heavily weighted factor in site selection among Pittsburgh-based service firms. The least considered factor …

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a corporate initiative to assess and take responsibility for the company's effects on the environment and impact on social welfare (www.Investopedia.com). The goal of CSR is to embrace responsibility for the company's actions and encourage a positive impact through its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and all others who may also be considered stakeholders. The term generally applies to company efforts that go beyond what may be required by regulators or environmental protection groups. Negotiating Stances Used With Minority Suppliers: A Research Note, Alicia D. Cooper Ph.D., Rodney L. Stump Ph.D.

Atlantic Marketing Journal

While new ways of organizing exchange have become prominent in business-to-business markets, the function of corporate minority supplier purchasing programs in this changing organizational environment has received scant attention. Specifically, the extent to which the present structure of minority supplier purchasing programs enhances -- or deters -- the creation of strategic partnerships, impacts the way buyers and suppliers interact, and ultimately determines the efficacy of these exchange relationships has not been sufficiently addressed in the literature. The present study examines the relationship between the minority supplier categorization (versus those not classified as such) and the negotiation stances that purchasing agents …

Supply Chain Managers And Risk Behavior: Testing The Sitkin And Pablo Model, Willie Frank Thompson Apr 2015

Supply Chain Managers And Risk Behavior: Testing The Sitkin And Pablo Model, Willie Frank Thompson

Doctor of Business Administration Dissertations

The frequency of supply chain disruptions is increasing and the resulting costs amplify with the growth of supply chain density and complexity. Supply chain managers serve a pivotal role in ensuring continued firm competitiveness and success. Having the right person whose risk preferences, propensity to take risks, and history dealing with risks match the needs of the company is important. A foundational study performed by Sitkin and Pablo (1992) proposed a conceptual model focused on specific predictors of risk behavior from the individual, organizational, and problem-related perspectives. Questions still remain to the validity of the model given that it has …

Are All Shares Equal? A Measure Of Secondary Agency Conflict And An Examination Of Its Influence On Investor Reactions To Acquisition Announcements, Christine C. Sutton

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

The separation of ownership and control has been established as the source of primary agency conflict between managers and shareholders. The research presented in the chapters that follow explain how the combination of ownership and control also represent a significant problem for many dispersed shareholders. Prior research has argued that conflict among principals is pervasive in all types of corporations and may be detrimental to all the firm’s stakeholders. Scholars have investigated the relationships, but there existed no comprehensive and validated instrument to analyze the extent of the inequity among the various firm principals. In the following chapters, a composite …

The Franchisor/Franchisee Relationship: The Antecedents And Outcomes Of Perceived Franchisor Support, Mary Kay Rickard

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

Franchising is an organizational system that provides the franchisor with needed capital for expansion and the franchisee with expertise and knowledge to operate a local outlet (Windenhausen & Joyce 1977). It is, therefore, one of the approaches firms are turning to in order to increase their business. Franchising is more complex than a traditional business relationship because it is legally binding (Bernstein 2004). Moreover, the complexity of this relationship warrants a closer look from the perspective of the franchisee since it is the franchisees’ perception of the work environment which has an effect on their motivation and satisfaction with the …
