University Of Malaya's Electronic Procurement System (Umeps) Version 3.0, Wee Leng Chia
University Of Malaya's Electronic Procurement System (Umeps) Version 3.0, Wee Leng Chia
Student Works (2000-2009)
University of Malaya's Electronic Procurement System (UMEPS) is a project in association with the government's mission in implementing Electronic Government, one of the seven flagship applications under Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). It involves the automation of all business processes in the university. UMEPS is a Web-based procurement system that allows the faculties or departments in the university to electronically select items to be procured, initiate an electronic approval process and also create, submit and receive purchase orders, delivery orders and other related documents electronically. The six user groups of UMEPS include requestors, suppliers, approvers, treasurers, administrators and managers. The entire …
Selecting It Applications In Manufacturing: A Kbs Approach, Ravi Kathuria, Murugan Anandarajan, Magid Igbaria
Selecting It Applications In Manufacturing: A Kbs Approach, Ravi Kathuria, Murugan Anandarajan, Magid Igbaria
Business Faculty Articles and Research
The use of the right type of Information Technology (IT) applications or manufacturing systems is expected to usher in a competitive advantage. Selection of the right type of IT application is, however, a challenging task. When a company, with a given dominant process structure, emphasizes two or more competitive priorities, such as quality, product flexibility, etc., an unaided manager faces a complex decision problem in choosing from alternative IT applications available in the areas of product design through distribution. In this paper, we present a Knowledge Based System (KBS) that would assist managers with the identification of IT applications that …

Fisheries Management Report No. 2 - Use Of Market Mechanisms For The Allocation Of Commercial Fishing Access Entitlements In Western Australia, Economics Consulting Services Pty Ltd
Fisheries Published Reports
This publication has been prepared as a discussion paper on the potential use of market-based mechanisms for allocating commercial fishing entitlements in Western Australia. The aim has been to explore alternative mechanisms for allocating entitlements and the circumstances under which various methods might be more effective.
Fisheries Management Report No. 4 - Planning For The Further Development Of The Aquaculture And Marine Farming Industry At Jurien Bay, Dave Everall
Fisheries Published Reports
There is a well documented global requirement for some twenty million tonnes of edible sea foods from aquaculture in the next fifteen years. Most of the projected increase in production will need to be from mariculture because of limiting factors on land based aquaculture. At present, approximately 85%of all aquaculture occurs in the Asian region.
Globally, temperate water species have market advantages because of their ability to supply a growing market preference for a firm white fleshed fin fish. Although significant temperate water aquaculture occurs in various countries north of the equator, there are growing environmental concerns surrounding production of …
Interest Domination As A Framework For Exploring Channel Changes In Transitional Economies, Debra Dahab, James W. Gentry, Ravipreet S. Sohi
Interest Domination As A Framework For Exploring Channel Changes In Transitional Economies, Debra Dahab, James W. Gentry, Ravipreet S. Sohi
Department of Marketing: Faculty Publications
Changes in political and economic power can affect channel structures and decisions. Western channel models may not be useful for understanding the process of change in Central and East European transforming economies. This discussion suggests that channels in transforming economies may be controlled by groups or networks of people with mutual interests, a phenomenon the authors call interest domination. The article examines interest domination by managers, Communist cadres, and other party elite in two transforming economies and describes how structural and behavioral components of command economies might be conducive to interest domination of marketing channels. Propositions for explaining the political, …
Bulletin 4270 - Meat Quality In Beef Cattle, Brian Mcintyre
Bulletin 4270 - Meat Quality In Beef Cattle, Brian Mcintyre
Bulletins 4000 -
Meat quality is the sole concern of the consumer once the product reaches the supermarket shelf. Breeding, feeding or any other factors that may have been important to the beef producer have no influence over the buyer's choice. Meat quality can be divided into two components — appearance and eating quality.
How To Arrive At Computer Integrated Manufacturing: A 3-Year Survey, Arnoud De Meyer
How To Arrive At Computer Integrated Manufacturing: A 3-Year Survey, Arnoud De Meyer
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
The large majority of modern production companies have at their disposal a multitude of computer systems. The immediate challenge for these companies consists of integrating these computer systems and databases. How will one arrive at this integration? On the basis of a questionnaire administered in 1985, 1986 and 1987 among a group of large European manufacturers, one comes to the conclusion that this integration is one of the immediate priorities for this group of companies. They do not intend to implement turnkey systems. but instead will integrate the different databases and computer systems gradually. One can see emerging islands of …
Enhancing Manufacturing Planning And Control Systems Through Artificial Intelligence Techniques, Ronald S. Dattero, John J. Kanet, Edna M. White
Enhancing Manufacturing Planning And Control Systems Through Artificial Intelligence Techniques, Ronald S. Dattero, John J. Kanet, Edna M. White
MIS/OM/DS Faculty Publications
Manufacturing planning and control systems are currently dominated by systems based upon Material Requirements Planning (MRP). MRP systems have a number of fundamental flaws. A potential alternative to MRP systems is suggested after research into the economic batch scheduling problem.
Based on the ideas of economic batch scheduling, and enhanced through artificial intelligence techniques, an alternative approach to manufacturing planning and control is developed. A framework for future research on this alternative to MRP is presented.
Mathematical Programming Model Of Western Australian Dairy Farms, G R. Olney, D A. Falconer
Mathematical Programming Model Of Western Australian Dairy Farms, G R. Olney, D A. Falconer
Animal production and livestock research reports
A profit maximising mathematical programming dairy farm model has been developed which determines the most profitable management strategies for the full year. This model was initially an extension of the one used in the Western Australian Dairy Feed Management Service (DFMS) which determines the most profitable ration to feed for a specific period, the milk yield per cow and the number of cows to milk. The DFMS is useful for formulating a ration for a specific period, particularly during summer on non-irrigated farms in Western Australia when complete hand feeding is required, but it cannot be used to determine optimum …

Let's Look At Dairying, Maurice C. Cullity
Let's Look At Dairying, Maurice C. Cullity
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
FOR several years there has been a lot of gloomy forebodings about the future of the dairying industry.
It has been said that there is a drift from dairying; the industry is declining; or even that it is finished.
