In the summer of 2019, in Killingly, Connecticut the local Board of Education voted to retire the "Redmen" mascot name it had used for nearly a century. This legislation was widely opposed and received extensive media coverage. Within a few months, the town experienced a massive political referendum where several local Board of Education members and Councilmen were replaced by single issue politicians promising to reinstate the "Redmen" name. Now holding a majority on the Board of Education, these Board members made Killingly the first school in U.S. history to reinstate a mascot after being deemed "derogatory."

ELIZABETHTON (Dec. 1, 2020)  – The East Tennessee State University Center for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at the Nave Center underwent extensive renovations this year, expanding services offered at the interdisciplinary, interprofessional clinic located in Elizabethton.

This facility has served as an academic space for ETSU since 1976 and has transformed over the years into an interdisciplinary clinic with multiple areas of practice that serves community health care needs and educates ETSU students who are pursuing a variety of careers in the rehabilitative and diagnostic health sciences.

In a culture of experiential consumption, themed consumer experiences have become highly marketable commodities, giving birth to new types of experiences. In this research, we explore these new forms of experiences that try to escape from commodification through syncretism. We conduct an ethnography of a highly themed festival, Hellfest in France. We identify that this festival offers an experience based on cognitive, sensory, and praxeological syncretism which aims to re-enchant as well as disorient consumers. JOHNSON CITY – The Street Medicine Interest Group (SMIG), a new student organization at East Tennessee State University, is building bridges with community partners to help people who are experiencing homelessness overcome barriers to health care.

Different labels have very different influences and implications. This dissertation focuses on a unique persuasive language label: fitness label. This dissertation starts with a discussion on self-regulation mechanisms and research on goals, and their implications on how choosing fitness labeled food affects subsequent intention to forgo exercise.

The financial relationship between physicians and pharmaceutical salespeople has long been scrutinized for the potential ethical issues that may arise from the influence that financial incentives have on physician prescribing behavior. Until recently, details of these financial incentives were only available to physicians and salespeople. In order to shed light on this relationship, Congress passed legislation, known as the Sunshine Act, with the intent to make transparent financial information. By shedding light on this information, the legislation’s intent is to mitigate the potential ethical issues that such a financial relationship poses.
