JOHNSON CITY (Dec. 9, 2020) – Children in grades K-6 are invited to attend the Renaissance Child Winter Enrichment program at East Tennessee State University from Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 21-23.

This three-day STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) experience, hosted by the ETSU Office of Professional Development, includes a field trip to the ETSU Planetarium with an emphasis on the winter sky and space.

Counselors have planned a variety of holiday arts and crafts, games and winter fun enrichment activities for campers, with outdoor play included as weather allows.

This study arose from a conversation with my roommate about the state of the gaming industry in terms of devices on which consumers play. We perceived a shift in our attitudes towards gaming PCs due to Covid-19 and other aspects. I wondered if this affected a wider population. If this change in attitude was widespread, it would affect different companies in the gaming industry as well and would alter consumer behavior related to large purchases in the gaming industry.

The article, “Rural Appalachia Battling the Intersection of Two Crises: COVID-19 and Substance Use Disorders,” discusses rural Appalachia’s great risk of unforeseen side effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including increased mortality from substance use disorders.

JOHNSON CITY – (Dec. 8, 2020) Following a national search, Dr. Janna Scarborough has been named dean of the Clemmer College at East Tennessee State University.

Scarborough joined the ETSU faculty in 2006 and has served as interim dean for the past 20 months.  For six years, she served as chair of the Department of Counseling and Human Services and also held an associate dean appointment in the Clemmer College before assuming the interim deanship in March 2019.

JOHNSON CITY (Dec. 2, 2020) – Dr. Jonathan Moorman of East Tennessee State University was recently awarded a $330,000 Biomedical Laboratory Research and Development Merit Review Award by the Department of Veterans Affairs to study immune responses to COVID-19. 

The project, “Characterizing trained immune responses to COVID-19,” was one of 18 funded studies awarded from a pool of 104 applications received from VA Medical Centers across the country.
