The Psychological Effects Of Perceived Scarcity On Consumers’ Buying Behavior, Shipra Gupta Jul 2013

The Psychological Effects Of Perceived Scarcity On Consumers’ Buying Behavior, Shipra Gupta

College of Business: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

This research seeks to provide an understanding of consumers’ psychological responses to the scarcity environments that are strategically created by retailers. A mixed method design provides both qualitative and statistical understanding of this phenomenon. The findings across four studies define a new construct that captures consumers’ understanding of the product shortage that is strategically created by the retailer, differentiates it from scarcity situations where the retailer does not necessary limit the supply of the product, and suggests that consumers react differently in the varied conditions. The study suggests that strategically controlled environments, by creating product uncertainty, are able to motivate …

Yunus Abdullah - Use Of Social Media By Businesses: A New Opportunity For Consulting Services By Accounting Firms, Yunus Abdullah

Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program 2013

In the last 10 years, social media has been restructuring business policies and practices creating new business models. These models are shaping the internal and external aspects of businesses, improving efficiency, and hopefully yielding higher profits while reducing costs. Businesses are becoming more dependent on social media, making social media an inevitable expectation of effective business models. Toni M. Conley - An Empirical Analysis Of How Purchase Decision Makers Arrive At A Fair Price For Subscription-Based Crm, Toni M. Conley

Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program 2013

Internet based technologies have played an important role in the development of modern CRM applications over the last several years. They have been the critical driving force behind the rise of on-demand CRM, and have also enabled on-premise CRM vendors to dramatically simplify deployment and administration. As a result of this, business purchase decision makers are in the midst of a recent and accelerating shift in how they acquire marketing support solutions for their enterprises. They are moving from a CAPEX (capital expenditure) to an OPEX (operational expenditure) model. Many time, marketing support solutions acquired via an on-demand model (OPEX) …

Retailer Television Advertising: Consumers' Skepticism Of Informational Vs. Emotional Ads, Janna Michelle Parker Jul 2013

Retailer Television Advertising: Consumers' Skepticism Of Informational Vs. Emotional Ads, Janna Michelle Parker

Doctoral Dissertations

The bombardment with ads that consumers face daily has led to increased Skepticism toward Advertising. This increased advertising costs billions of dollars, yet, the research has shown conflicting results (Stafford and Day 1995) (Obermiller and Spangenberg 1998) (Obermiller, Spangenberg and MacLachlan 2005) regarding which strategies work best for reducing the negative influence of Skepticism toward Advertising.

For over a decade, retailers have ranked #2 in television advertising spending (Advertising Age 2002-2012). Television advertising research has focused on advertising by manufacturers. These findings should not be generalized to retailers because retailers and manufacturers have different goals, use different promotional tools, and …

Revenge Or Reconciliation? A Rejection-Based Model Of Firm-Induced Relationship Termination, Lucas Hopkins Jul 2013

Revenge Or Reconciliation? A Rejection-Based Model Of Firm-Induced Relationship Termination, Lucas Hopkins

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects

This study is the first to examine the effects of firm-induced relationship termination on customer rejection perceptions and firm-related outcome behaviors. A research model is developed that focuses on several key issues with respect to the post-termination process. First, the study explores how direct versus indirect termination styles influence a consumer’s feelings of relational evaluation. The author hypothesizes that indirect termination strategies lead to lower levels of rejection upon the dissolution of the relationship. Second, the author examines how the level of perceived rejection experienced by customers affects their subsequent emotions. Specifically, as a result of this rejection, customers may …

Accumulating And Spending Retirement Assets: A Behavioral Finance Explanation, Diane K. Schooley-Pettis, Debra Drecnik Worden

Marketing Faculty Publications and Presentations

Increasing uncertainty surrounding social security benefits and public sector pension plans is pushing retirement savings into the spotlight. This study finds that education, financial discipline, and financial sophistication increase the likelihood of participating in a pension or an IRA/Keogh plan. Financial distress decreases the likelihood of setting aside additional funds in an IRA/Keogh plan. Further, the likelihood that an eligible individual will decline an offered pension plan decreases with education and financial discipline and financial sophistication. Controlling for health and marital status, the choice to annuitize retirement assets decreases with age and the desire to take risk.

Exploring Integrity, Leadership And Value Maximization In Microfinance, Junette A. Perez

DLSU Business & Economics Review

This study intends to review thoughts and expositions on integrity, leadership, and its potential link to value maximization in microfinance. The major source of exposition is from Jensen, Erhard, and Zaffron (2011). Prior reviews revealed that a man with integrity is a man of his word. As such, integrity begins with the mind as the mind compels the desire to exercise the manifestations of integrity. Jensen et al. (2011) measured integrity as equivalent to honoring one’s word. Applying such definition in microfinance, imputed with concepts of leadership with a view of maximizing value in microfinance is limitless as well as …

DLSU Business & Economics Review

The study aimed at establishing the impacts of mobile phones usage on the growth of microenterprises. The study focused on mobile phones (and not telephony or telecommunications in general) because of the speedy adoption and widespread usage of mobile phones witnessed in Kenya over the last 10 years. The objectives of the study were based on three indicators of business growth, that is, income, profitability (cost management), and customer base. The study adopted a descriptive design method since it aimed at discovering and describing if a relationship exists between the variables. The study purposively sampled 100 microenterprises from Safaricom’s Zidisha …

DLSU Business & Economics Review

The aim of this study is to examine the Probabilistic Mental Model (PMM) Theory as an explanation of the framing effect in the context of reporting risk in different formats in Indonesia. The study was conducted using an online field experimental method with 3x4x2 mixed design, involving 54 investment analysts as participants. Experiments were conducted to test whether different formats of risk information—given the time sequence associated with the framing effect as explained by the PMM Theory—influence the investment decision-making process. The results show that participants chose to take action that is not at risk when the information presented is …
