Dr. Nicholas E. Hagemeier, vice provost for research and chief research officer at East Tennessee State University (VPR/CRO), is one of eight research leaders from across the country selected for the Association of Public & Land Grant Universities’ (APLU) Research Leader Fellowship Program.
Hagemeier will join the sixth cohort of the program, which is sponsored by the APLU Council on Research (COR). June 1, 2023 – East Tennessee State University and Asheville-Buncombe Technical College have joined forces in a new partnership, enabling students to seamlessly transition from A-B Tech's Associate of Applied Science in Human Services Technology program to ETSU's Bachelor of Science in Human Services program.
The partnership will provide students who have completed a two-year degree at A-B Tech with an educational pathway to continue their studies as they work toward a four-year degree at ETSU.

Renee Williams' journey began when she and her two siblings were left on the steps of an orphanage in the late 1970s. Despite the challenges she faced growing up, Williams was determined to pursue higher education. Her quest to find her biological mom led her to the Appalachian Highlands and eventually to East Tennessee State University, where she began her journey as a first-generation college student.
But there are times life does not go as planned.

East Tennessee State University’s Dr. Aaron Polichnowski was recently awarded a $601,092 grant from the National Institutes of Health to research a possible link between blood vessel function and hypertension – particularly salt-sensitive hypertension.
Polichnowski, a professor in the Quillen College of Medicine’s Department of Biomedical Sciences and expert in renal hemodynamics (dynamics of blood flow in the kidneys), will conduct the study in partnership with Augusta University’s Dr. David Mattson. New to Kingsport this year is a herd of uniquely painted goats that have taken the community by storm. After the fall of Rome, a dark age descended on Europe until the Italian Renaissance reignited European minds. Those same Italians passed their inspiration to English protestants, who in turn brought ideas to the original 13 colonies in what would become the United States.

(May 19, 2023) -- ETSU Health’s Johnson City Community Health Center is bringing back its community garden this weekend.
Anyone, whether you have a green thumb or not, is welcome to volunteer to maintain the garden and enjoy the fruits (or vegetables) of their labor. Volunteer days will be held the third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning this Saturday, May 20.
People are encouraged to come outside of those days to harvest and tend to the garden, however. Volunteer days will continue throughout the spring and summer until fall.

A new analysis from the East Tennessee State University/NORC Rural Health Equity Research Center finds that people living in rural areas of the United States face greater challenges accessing substance use disorder (SUD) treatment than people living in urban areas.
The ETSU/NORC Rural Health Research Center is a partnership between the Addiction Science Center and Center for Rural Health Research, in the ETSU College of Public Health.
The study shows that rural residents are four-and-a-half times more likely than urban residents to be admitted to inpatient treatment through a court order or by law enforcement and nine times less likely …
